Who loves the oddball chamberings?

I firmly believe that every one should have at least two odd ball cartridges in their colletion.

I have a Type 38 in 6.5x57mm

My dad has a 25 niedner (Org 25-06)

Well, if for no other reason than just not mentioned - My only "not common" caliber is my fathers Win 1894 in .25-.35 (new purchase in 1898). I guess ammo is available, if you have the cash, and are willing to wait, but not really "weird", just uncommon. I virtually never see it mentioned in dicussions, and wonder just how many of that caliber may be out there yet.

I thought that that was what collecting was all about. If you can find it on most gun stores shelfs I don't want it.
44/40, 38/40 25/20 44 henery, 45/120, 38 short, 41mag, 32/20, and the 41 action express.

I am thinking of turning a short action mauser or a Remington 700 into a 219 Donaldson Wasp.

Very nice little benchrest caliber.

Is 8MM Mauser an oddball?
It is if it's .318 (J) instead of .323 (S).

I've had a number of Commission '88s and a Commission '91 (artillery short rifle) Mannlichers. Contrary to popular belief at the time when many of them were imported from China, Turkey and elsewhere, they were NOT rebarreled to .323 (S) bore diameter. Instead, freebore was added so that the standard .323 bullet didn't run right into the .318 rifling too soon, somewhat lowering peak pressures.

So, if you have a Commission '88, you've got an "oddball".

Most of my not-so-common calibers are foreign military. Probably the strangest are the Russian 7.62x38R (Nagant) and 7.62x25 (Tokarev), and maybe the 8x56R Steyr. I've also got a revolver in .38 S&W, which is getting rare these days.

I also reload .577 Snider Enfield..........How's that for obscure?

Yep, pretty obscure....and the father of the 577-450 (more properly the Short Chamber Boxer-Henry .45 Caliber)......shown to the left of the American round of the same period, the 45-70.

I love to be different.
I have

2 10mm's
4 .41 magnums
remington 700 in 8mm mauser
16 and 28 guage shotgun's
winchester .307 and .284 are on my list next.
If I ever get a chance to go after big game Im going to get a 8mm remington magnum.

Forget everyday rounds like 348 and 32/20. Heck, you can go into a decent gun shop and buy ammo for those. (With a LOT of money).

For real oddball rounds you've got to go with 310 Cadet, 577/450 Martini-Henry or 577 Snider. You haven't lived until you try to work up a good handload for 310 Cattle Killer.
