Afternoon, all. :)

I was wondering if I could get (a) picture(s) comparing a few somewhat... "oddball" calibers. I'd like to compare dimensions of the following:

Autoloader Pistol Calibers:
.25 ACP
7.62x25mm
9x19mm
.357 Sig
10mm Auto
.40 S&W
.45 ACP

Revolver Calibers:
.32 H&R Mag
.38 Special
.357 Mag
.41 Mag
.44 Russian
.44 Special
.44 Mag
.45 LC
.500 S&W

Rifle:
.223/5.56x45mm
.22-250
5.7x28mm FN
6.5x55mm Swede
7.62x51mm/.308 Win
.308 Norma Mag
.30-06
.300 Win Mag
.338 Lapua
8mm Mauser (7.92 something)
8mm Remington Mag
.45-70 Gov't
.50 BMG
.4(something) CheyTac

Most, if not all of these, I have never seen in person. I'm rather curious as to how they "measure up" to each other (bad pun intended :D ). Thanks in advance! :)

P.S. A few of these are next-to-impossible to find (like the CheyTac and the .308 Norma Mag). Extra points to those who can Photoshop a realistic comparison to the other calibers! :p :uhoh:

You should see what reloading companies such as Sierra and Hornady have to offer. I have a couple posters showing the different bullets they offer in all of the different calibers.

I'm sure somebody would have similar posters showing the actual cartridge, and not just the bullet. Hope this helps!

Pardon the poor image quality; the camera was free. :)

12/30 matches found. Left to right:
7.65x25
9mm
.40
.45

.38spl
.357mag
.44mag
.500

.223
5.56mm (If you squint, you can see that the 5.56 is a hair taller than the .223)
7.62x39
30-06
.50bmg ( ;) )

Although... that looks to be one mighty big .50BMG... What is that?

What, you don't recognize the fearsome Fifty Caliber? Each round the size of a ketchup bottle? As wide as your wrist? Capable of shooting down tanks in mid-flight?

...

It's actually a 30mm from LennyJoe.

:uhoh: Tanks in mid-flight? :uhoh: If I see a tank flying along I will need one of these.

Welcome to THR, Scix! :)

New guy buys ammo... ;) :p

Well, considering I've never even seen .25 ACP, 7.62x25mm, .357 Sig, 10mm Auto, .32 H&R Mag, .38 Special, .357 Mag, .41 Mag, .44 Russian, .44 Special, .44 Mag, .45 LC, .22-250, 5.7x28mm FN, .308 Norma Mag, .300 Win Mag, .338 Lapua, or .408 CheyTac with my own eyes... that makes them oddball to me. I have no idea what their dimensions are relative to the other calibers I listed, if they're necked down from something, or whatever.

.357 sig is a .40 S&W necked to .357. 10mm is 3mm taller than .40 S&W. I wish I had a digital camera to take the pictures of some of these, but I don't. .41 mag is about the same height as .45 LC, at 1 1/4 inches. .38 S&W is 1 1/8th tall. .300 Winchester Magnum is a huge guy standing 2 5/8th inches high with a 1/2 in diameter base. I have the 8mm Mauser (the ones I have are 7.91x57mm) it is necked down from a 12mm base. Those are the ones I have on hand that you asked for. Hope that helps.

Have good time guessing those secret items from my collection ;)

The last one on the end, is that the 14.5 M41/44 Russian?
Then there's the one that looks like a 5.56 with a spike out the end for the four barrel underwater gun SPP-1 that the Rooskies developed.

Edit: Then there's the Russian version of the .50 BMG, the 12.7x108mm

right with two bigger ones; however the one with "spike" is 5.6mm MPS cartride for APS underwater rifle; i have 4.5mm dummy underwater ammo to, but not on the display; this one has rimmed brass case...

Here's one you didn't ask for but which you might find interesting:
On the far right is a 7.62x38mm Nagant revolver case. The others are 9x19 and 7.62x39mm for comparison.
Max, is that 9th cartridge from the left (handgun) the superhot Russian AP 9mm round? I think I've seen a pic of a GSh-18 loaded with them.

Cheers,
Apple

Okeydokey.

A few extra thrown in for good measure. The .50 BMG round is currently sitting elsewhere. ;)
