Looking for a Left handed semi-auto rifle in ATLEAST .243 caliber. Can anyone give me the names of some manufacturers.

Thanks

Stag Arms makes a lefty AR15 but so far only in .223, hopefully one day in something bigger. I think windrunner had a lefty .50 BMG but not too common. Maybe a Steyr AUG, they're supposed to have a switchable configuration.

I hate LH rifles. I shoot longarms LHed. I prefer rifles designed for the RH guys since they're more common, I dont limit myself to only a few models of a few brands, I'm still able to manipulate the controls on most rifles, and someone else's rifle doesn't feel weird to me, other the the fact it belongs to someone else. Having said that:

The only thing that comes to my mind is the .308 from Bushmaster, even then the ejection port is on the wrong side for us (not much of an issue due to the brass deflector) and it still needs an ambi safety installed, but from what I understand the bolt release, magazine release and charging handle are ambi.

Someone has a LH firearms section (gunsamerica.com?), you could look through there to get some ideas, however the last time I looked most, if not all, were bolt-action.

well, if you can wait a bit, theres two SCAR submission rifles that should hit the civvie market shortly. Both the FN SCAR (don't know if it'll go civvie, but it looks like it) and the Robinson XCR (definately will be available soon) are designed around an ambi requirement, and the ability to swap out to a larger chambering (though that latter might take a while to be developed, since the word is that the requirement for 6.8 was dropped)

I think?

Just out of curiosity, are you looking for a hunting-type semi, or a military-type semi?

I'm left-handed and I shoot a Remington 742 in .30-06. Definitely a right-handed hunting rifle, but I've learned to ignore that big ol' casing zipping past my eyes. It gets thrown so far to the right that I've never worried about it bouncing around my head (though I did have one casing bounce off the far side of a hunting stand and hit my leg).

I'm much more aware of the big boom that I get from an 18" barrel. (So is everyone else within about a 2-mile radius.)

Who makes a lefty

I am 73 years old, left handed and left eyed, the Garand gave me fits during my tour of the US Marine Corps during the Korean Thing. I did Qualify Expert in spite of shooting on the wrong side and loading difficulties.

Recently I obtained a Springfield 03A3 , as well as a Model 1917. both in 30-06 and both with peep sights. For the first time in my life I am firing right handed and right eyed and find that after firing many rounds I am firing as accurate as with the lifelong lefty way. Just put your mind to it and you can do it!

In a semiauto, I know of only one where a LH version was made: Remington 740. Seen occasionally at gunshows, along with LH 760s. Pretty scarce, even though they were cataloged for years.

FWIW, I'm also a southpaw and have had to adapt. Hunted almost exclusively with LAs and pumps for years just because they offered the best compromise I could afford.

Personally, I've found that an aftermarket safety conversion can make most RH 740s, 760s, 870s perfectly usable.

Other than having to break position to reload, my Garand works just fine. Ditto the SKS, with the addition of a cheap ambi replacement lever. Don't have much experience with ARs, but I've fired examples with an ambi lever and the case deflector on the receiver without getting brass in my face. IMO, having a control for the safety where I can get at it easily makes the most difference.

Actually I am right handed but I a left eye dominant. I have always shot right handed. Rifles and shotguns. I have found that I am a MUCH MUCH better shot if I shoot rifles and shotguns lefthanded. I can't get down on the sights, or I have to buy really really tall scope mounts. For example: If I were to use the iron sights on my AR-15 and shoot right handed I have to hold the rifle and extend my arms all the way to straight.
Talk about looking funny shooting a rifle.

The VZ52/57 or VZ52 rifles are both left ejecting and very much lefty rifles. the charging handles are both on the right side but if you think about it, a lefty will have an easier time with them as most modern semi-autos have the charging handle on the left....not right. They shoot 7.62 x 39 and 7.62 x 45 respectively. The 52 is more available but both rifles are on the market from time to time.

HAC-7? The one called the American FN-FAL? The Official Rifle of the Texas State Militia? That rare and elusive gun that was advertised in SoF decades ago? Yes, that'll do. But it'll be tough to find one.

I don't see why one of those DPMS uppers and left handed bolt & bolt carrier can't be adapted to a bigger bullet. I rolled my own and it was a blast to shoot. Now it's in Nevada. :(

I've handled the Stag Arms lefty ar 15's and they are top notch. My dealer is a dealer of his products. A great product and really really top notch.

What exactly are you looking for in a "left-handed" rifle? The ejection port on the other side? Controls you can easily manipulate left handed?

If you don't need the bassackwards ejection port, I would say to go with an "inch" FAL. The only thing you can't manipulate "stock" is the selector, and then you can either flip it with your index finger (I do that left handed), or I have seen some "ambi" mods to the selector that aren't that hard to do.

Yep, I am looking for the bassackwards ejector. Tire of dodgind brass and shells. I decided that I am finally going to get a lefty rifle and shotgun. I will still keep my righty's though
