There is a ton of junk out there for magazines that I have seen and they cause more problems than you can shake a stick at. What company makes the best, most solid performing, after John Moses Browning's own heart 7 round magazine that functions flawlessly in a typical 1911 GI type .45 Pistol? Qualifiers:Correct Feed lips, spring tension on the money, the dimple on the magazine follower, no splitting nor swelling on the back of the case and you get the hole on the bottom please.
How do you Tune a good 7 round GI Type Magazine?

To be honest, I've never tried all the mags available...I've not had any problems using Wilson Combat 7-rd mags...
As far as tweaking the G.I. mags, I've found that many of them have the spring hang-up not giving even tension throughout the 7 rds...Anyway, that's been my experience...

I agree with Mad...wilson combats...use them in my les, colt, kimber...in .45 and .38 super...never had a problem with them...usually find them for around $28-$32 most places online.

If you'll do a search for thread title "Magazine Observations" by 1911Tuner in the Gunsmithing sub forum, you'll get an extensive discussion of the best options in curently available magazines that are closest to original GI in that thread. Also a good read on the controlled round feed design & charecteristics of the 1911.

I used Wilson mags exclusively w/ my Colt & have gone 1000's of rounds w/o issue. When I went to the DW COBOB, I tried using their stock mags & ran into problems...I bought 3 more Wilson mags & have been problem free since!
Go Wilson! :D

My Chip McCormick has given me no problems in my cheap ole' Rock Island 1911.

Gotta' look into these Metalforms....

I use Wilson-Rodgers magazines in all my Colt .45 autos and my Delta Elite 10mm (The Wilson-Rodgers 10mm Mags are no longer made and hard to come by). I have tried about every brand on the market over the years and am convinced these are the best of the best.

I'm not sure about their availability in 7 rd (I've sold hundreds of the 8 rounders because that's what everybody seemed to want), but Novak makes a GREAT 1911 mag. Their quality is impressive, and I've never had any complaints.

I bought two Triple K's for my 1911. They were absolute junk. Then I found a bunch of used mags and picked up four Pachmyers. They all work flawlessly in both my Auto Ord and my Ballester.

Chip McCormick Powermags with Tripp Research Super-7 springs and followers, per Hilton Yam's specs.

The only flawless combination I have found, and I have tried them all.

Another nod for Metalform.

Just received another two in the mail yesterday!!!!!

While Wilson Combats are nice, I just can't justify spending that much on a magazine. I buy cheap no-name GI magazines at gun shows for 10$ and under and they run without error in my Kimber (yep, my Kimber isn't picky :what: ).

Check-Mate Industries makes mags for Kimber, Colt, Springfield and the last few military contracts for 7 rounders.
The latest from Metalform have quality issues.
