I seen a few advertised online (e.g.) Cast Performance, Dry creek bullet works and Beartooth bullets ... Who is/are the best for .45 Colt SD loads as well as hunting Whitetail, bear and boar?

My turn to crow...

I've become a big fan of Beartooth bullets, but I only use them for super-velocity .45-70 loads, they're a bit expensive. And hard as the hubs of hell!

When I was NCOIC of a branch in an Air Force forensics lab about 8 years ago, I bought a sampler pack of the Laser-Cast bullets for analysis. Something irked me about their advertising, with the silver content and all. Yup, after some scanning electron microscope, ion microprobe, and x-ray diffractometer tests, there was indeed silver in the alloy. Less than 1/10th of one percent, but it's there. Along with several other metals you wouldn't normally expect to see in a lead/tin/antimony cast bullet. ;)

i, too, have shot several thousands of laser-cast without complaint.
no doubt, some of the others mentioned are better. thing is, i shoot lots and lots and cannot afford to blast away with the premiums. laser-cast gives me good accuracy and very little to zero leading with my hotter loads.
no need for much more than that out of a cast bullet. my .02

I'll cast another vote for Laser-Cast. That's my $.01 worth since I've used bullets from about 1% of all commercial cast bullet makers. In other words, it would be difficult for anyone to say which company makes the 'best' until all have been tried.

"... at great prices."

Wow, RCL, those are not great prices. Looks pretty high to me. Comparing a bullet I shoot lots of, a 45 Colt 250 gr. RNFP:
Dry Creek - $100 per 1000 plus shipping
Laser-Cast - $81.50 per 1000 shipping included

Kids, I shoot a LOT of cast bullets. I have never looked for the absolute best, because as soon as I get sub 2" at 25 yards with zero leading I am totally happy. I work on the loading a little bit, but the one bullet commercially available around the country that has really proven to work perfectly for my needs in several guns is Meister bullets. They make a damn good bullet for the money, nothing better is needed for sure unless 454 or similar pressures are in the equation.

Dry Creek bullets are very good, excellent source for real Keith bullets, especially heavier ones. Leadhead's are also very good, they don't have as many Keiths but they turn out a quality product.

I've heard good things about Beartooth, but haven't gotten the bullets I ordered 2+ months ago yet so I can't comment on them personally. They do state they have a 6 month backlog though so the delay wasn't unexpected.

I can second what HSMITH says about Meister bullets, the couple different ones I've used (230gr LRN in 45 ACP and 300 gr LTC in 44 Mag) have been solid performers. Nothing special or unique about them, they turn out the same bullets it seems every other large commercial caster does - bevel base SWC, LRN etc, but they work well.

I think the best 45 Colt self defense load comes from Corbon though in the form of their 200 gr JHP @ 1,100 fps and not a hard cast bullet. If they would load their 165 gr JHP @ 1,250 fps in the 45 Colt and not just 45 Auto I think it might make a better one, especially in compact 45 Colts like the Taurus Tracker.

I've been using Meister bullets for quite a while, never any problems and they are very consistent in weight and size. I've used Laser cast as well, and the Meister bullets are just as good (as far as I can tell).

The main reason I use them is the local Gander Mountain stocks them at good prices.

That being said, Dry Creek is the place to get custom sized and heavy Keith bullets for sure. But too expensive for what I do (IDPA)..

Kelly Brost at Cast Performance is a shooter and hunter first, and makes awesome bullets. Marshall (?) makes great bullets at Beartooth as well.
