Smith & Wesson 4506.

The one I had would feed anything, including a magazine full of empty cases as fast as I could rack the slide. I've never seen any other gun do that out of the box.

DA pull was a little heavy, but Wolff springs fixed that.
It never jammed and never failed to fire.

All steel and durable as hell.
The only drawback is that it didn't fit my hand as well as a 1911.

If you find one of these on the used market, jump on it with both feet.

SIG Sauer P220ST

For me, nothing else even comes close. My favorite .45 ACP pistol.

I voted for the CZ 97B. I've shot other people's SIG 220s, and they're sweet shooters. But I'm a southpaw, and the control layout on the 220 is too unfriendly for me to buy one.

Almost voted S&W. My 4586 has the shortest, sweetest, quickest resetting DAO trigger pull I've ever seen. Absolutely reliable, but nowhere near as accurate as my 97B.

Neil Keller did a "duty" action tune and installed an ambi thumb safety from an EAA on mine. I got a SS FLGR from a fellow named Mike Sardinha on the CZ Forum board and 16 and 18lb recoil springs from Wolff.

The one-screw grip panels were kind of a pain, as the screws tended to work loose after a few magazine loads. A small rubber o-ring under each screw head or a drop of blue Loctite will both cure that.

The Rugers that I've fired have had nice trigger pulls and were both very accurate. The only reason that I don't own one is that they don't fit my hand well at all.

I'd take the Cougar 8045 -- I think it comes in both single/double action and double action only. Not in my state though....:fire:

Goerge Hill says....the CZ97 needs a

"6. Give it a decocker." :what:

Blasphemy! Where are the paddles....he's flat lining :D

and "Oh... and make a "Commander" version. A 4 inch version would be joygasmic. (especially with a matching reduction in the grip length)"

Ok....that brought him back to life..............sheesh.........:neener:

Shoot well

"I'd take the Cougar 8045"
I would have to look into that further, but all the ones I've seen are the Mini-Cougers and they are only 6 shooters. If they used a doublestack mag and had 10 rounds - then the Couger would be a contender.

CZ could install a decocker like the one found on the P99. Flush fit to the slide, it would be unobtrusive and not cause problems when using the safety.

Really, it would be great if all DAs were built like that. Cake and eat it too.

Hello everybody,
I'm new to the boards, but I've been around weapons all my life. I wanted to add my 2 cents. I have 3 para - ords, and with the exception of my LDA 6-45 mags not wanting to feed properly, I've had a wonderful time shooting these weapons. All are accurate, and are fun to shoot.
Thanx, Lt. G

I'm with Mastro...

Gimme a Beretta Cougar 8045F.

The full size packs 8 rounds and fits my hand like a glove.

The weapon rides low in your hand and with Winchester Silvertips, the recoil is light enough that double taps come easy.

Shame Beretta didn't make the poll.

Maybe next time...:(

You guys have it all wrong!! Best double action in 45ACP is my S&W 625 revolver, hands down. Has a smoother double action trigger than anything else I've ever fired, including sigs and Hks

I love my Sig P220. I put a pair of Hogue finger-groove grips on it and ooh, baby!. My second choice would probably be the Ruger P90.
