Well just thought I would toss this question out there and see what type of replies I got back. I love Smith and Wesson revolvers myself ( more the older blue steel ones but stainless is ok too) Ruger, Taurus, Rossi, or Colt. Who do you all favor?

I would have to say Freedom Arms if you are talking production guns. I like the older S&Ws the most but I do have a couple Rugers that shoot just fine. Another Python is on my short list if I can find one at a resonable price.

I love old S&W's, and I have for over 30 years but I have handled some new ones and my revolvers are now Rugers.
But they are not current Rugers, they are Security and Speed Six's.

I have nothing against current Ruger revolvers, I just like the older design better.

I have no experience with FA's, and haven't owned a Colt in ten years or more.

I bought a new-for-'05 S&W 625JM last February. If it is any indication of their current production QC, my vote is for them - it is an excellent value and was well executed.

I also like Rugers, accepting them always as a 'work in progress' as they are a tad crude. In SA's, the top is FA, with MR's BFR between them and Ruger, quality-wise.

hmmmm, you know, there is really no current manufacturer that you can really say "these are real works of art" or "these are marvels of contruction or design", etc. Most make a passable product. But none really show a pride of workmanship I hate to say. Lots of hammers. No Stradivarius, if you know what I mean.

I have a number of serviceable revolvers though, some of modern enough manufacture to have the locks. I really hate the locks--as bad as the safeties on lever actions--just an abomination. But they have at least acceptable accuracy and function.

My favorite revolver at the moment is probably my 2" snubbie model 10.

S&W, and Ruger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Make the best hands down......of course I might just be prejudiced :neener:

:D :D :D

"S&W, and Ruger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "

And the best car is the Volkswagen???

There are luxus-makers in car industry (Rolls, Ferrari, Maybach), and the same is true in case of guns. A Korth, JTL, or Manurhin MR73 is possibly much better in fit&finish, than the average Joe's SW revolver.

Well no votes for Taurus Huh :p

I have never handled or seen a korth but I hear they are the rolls royce.

I would vote smith and wesson for a snubby carry gun, best reliability, warranty service if needed, and selection of personal defense snubbies. Ruger aint gonna touch them here.

For bullseye and target shootin guns again Smith & Wesson.

For a .44 mag you can over load though it would be ruger.

Freedom arms if you want a Single Action in a big bore.

If you want a reliable big bore single action that is almost as good as FA then Ruger.

"If you want a relaible reasonably price "

The question IS:
"Who makes the Best revolvers today? "

NOT
"Who makes the best value for the money?"

Ruger makes the best value for your money and the best revolvers - period. Although I do love my 4" 686 too.... :D but it was bought used.

It's interesting to see what the word "best" means to different people.
To some, it's their personal favorite.
To others it's best value.
And to still others it's about best quality.
And to gvass, he is positive that the vague words "best revolvers" definitely does NOT mean value. :D ;)
9mmhpfan did not really specify.
Either way, it's still Freedom Arms, and those that don't agree, are just wrong.

:neener:

This may be "out of the blue" for those of you who have never owned one, but I think the Magnum Research BFR is one very fine revolver (and when value is taken into consideration, as I think it should be, it really gets my vote.

No one votes for a Taurus? Well, fyi, the last two Taurus revolvers I purchased (both 9 mm model 905 snubbys) had nicer, lighter, smoother trigger pulls than any Smith I have purchased in recent times...even gives the Performance Center guns a run for their money.

With factory revolvers, I'm gonna go with Freedom Arms - look nice, feel nice, lock up like a vault. In my opinion, Hamilton Bowen makes the finest revolvers around, though he does not have a factory, and there are many other fine 'smiths building revolvers.

PS never seen a Korth...
