I have to give Walmart kudos for not jacking their prices. Local Wm stores are now frequently having stock of handgun staples, like Blazer Brass 9mm 50 count for $9.48, and WWB .40 100 count for $29.88.
Nothing at my Wal Mart either. I went last week and they had 2 boxes of winchester jhp 45 so I grabbed them. still at 25 a box of 50 not bad price. Haven't see any 9mm or 22 bulk in a long time
It seems some areas of the country are starting to see inventory again while others are still hurting. I take it as a good sign that there is any improvement anywhere and I hope that once it gets rolling supply will catch up with demand and prices will come down to a more reasonable level.
That $30 brick of Thunderbolt 22s and $70 box of 380 FMJ just about freaked me out.
rbernie, thanks for the update, and all updates on finding ammo!
HOWEVER: I as well as others took note of how CTD screwed with prices and they are no longer that cheap. I for one wouldn't buy from them, and I tried to find them at the NRA convention to let them know but somehow they forgot to come.
I understand the anti-CTD sentiment. I was/am as pissed at them as anyone else at their early/rapid transition to price inflation. I have heard their arguments defending their behavior, and I was generally unimpressed. They are local to me and I know some folk who work there (and whom I respect), so I wanted to not feel that way about them - but I did.
However, I will give them props for putting out this current batch of ammo at something close to pre-election hysteria prices, which is why I both bought some myself as well as advertised it to others who may have a need for some...
Ammo at any price is better than no ammo, period, which is what's going in Oregon these days. The WallyWorlds here are bare; I haven't seen any 9mm in more weeks than I can count; ditto any .22, other than .22 short. I ran into one box of .32ACP at a WallyWorld in Central Oregon and was verbally chastised by a guy two spots behind me in line for buying it ahead of him.
I don't care much for the folks who raise their prices time and again to take advantage, but I do appreciate having the opportunity to buy something if need be, even if the price is north of ludicrous.
I found a few boxes of WWB recently. 100-round box of 9mm at my local Dick's and even a box of .45ACP at Wal-Mart. While I do need more 9, I couldn't bring myself to buy overpriced WWB. I'd rather scrounge around for reloading supplies.
I haven't seen 9mm, .38, or 45 ammo at local Big 5s in over 3 months, and most of the gun stores in the area haven't had ammo shipments in these chamberings in 2 months.
The only ammo I consistently can find is .40 ... and I do not have a .40 gun.
Is anyone else seeing a lot of .40 out there. If this remains the case, I may buy a .40 just to be able to get ammo (even though I'm not too big on the chambering).
The Walmarts here only get in a few boxes at a time. That is right, boxes, not cases. It is gone as soon as it hits the shelf. Walmart has raised it prices here also. I just paid 36.79 for the value pack of 45 auto. Six months ago it was 32.79.
But, at the Portland gun show a few weeks ago there was more ammo available than there has been in a long time. A lot of off brands also and the prices were up there as well. But, at least you could buy what you needed.
