Who owns a Marlin 25

and how do you love it? I was all set to buy one of the new Savage MKII FV rifles and then I read something about the accuracy of the Marlin 25's. I'm shooting paper, sqiurrels, and other small varmints. I don't want to pay anymore than what a new Savage would cost, but I have seen the Marlins used for less, and if the accuracy is the same, that a be fine. If it was the same as my model 60 in a bolt, I'd be happy.

I used to own a model 25. Had a spare mag for it too. I sold because I thought I had too many 22 rifles. That was a mistake. You can't have too many 22s.

I had just bought a Marlin model 983T. Thats what replaced the model 25. The 983T is one of the last tube fed 22s I think you can find. Look for one and get it if you can. It has a synthetic stock that is sturdy and stiff unlike some other plastic stocks. And of course it is accurate like all Marlins are.

If you go to Gunbroker and type in marlin bolt actions you will get a page full of 22 bolt guns.

I have had my old Glenfield 20,since I was a kid,and it never failed me.I'm not crazy about the clip,or the blonde stock,but it is accurate,and dependable..

Still have a 25 in .22 mag I purchased new in 1990. Accuracy has been spectacular with some loads.

I used to "copy" targets that were shot with that rifle, (way before phone pix & computers were in my vocabulary) and send them to the various rimfire manufactures.

Received a couple hats, and even a box or two of ammo from some of them to try.

I have a 25N, 22LR and it's a great gun. Accurate, fun to shoot. I did the trigger spring/ball point pen spring replacement and it helped the trigger a lot.

I've got a 25M that I got in he mid 80s great guns, still shoots inchish groups at 100 with ammo it likes. It's got an even older Baush and Lomb 4X on it,

I made a mistake not getting a 25. My LGS has a 25 and a 25M, but I only got the M. I think that's a great gun.

I would guess the Savage with the accu trigger would be a plus.
I have a Marlin 882 in 22 mag. that was inaccurate until I shortened the bolt spring, it now groups less than .75" @ a 100yds with Win. 40gr JHP and has yet to miss fire.

i have a marlin 25 from the late 90s, with the trigger work i prefer it over my savage mark 2.

I've owned one for about 10 years and it's one of my favorite rifles. Plenty accurate for squirrels and such.

If you can locate a Marlin 25 at a reasonable price, I would say buy it. You can run shorts, longs, and long rifle, along with birdshot thru it.

^ A CB long will mag feed in the 25n. There's no telling how many coons I've shot out with one. I have a late 80's 25n and a 25mn that I got from a shop ~ 10 yrs ago. Both are great rifles. I refinished both stocks; didn't care for the original color and they were scratched a little. The mn I bought had someone's initials carved into the stock. Not too deep, so I got it out.

I wish I was contemplating purchasing a .25-36. After a morning of searching and reading I am leaning towards a MKII. New, good trigger, same accuracy.

I have a Glenfield 25, bought it from a pawn shop for $125, put some Warren Outdoor peep sights on and its a shooter! My favorite squirrel rifle.

I had a 25N for a number of years. It was a tack driver (5 shot overlapping the same bullet hole) at 50 yards with a cheap Tasco scope. I wish I'd never sold it.

I currently have a MK II FV-SR with a cheap Simmons 8 point 50mm. I love the trigger but maybe it's the ammo or the shooter; I don't tack drive with it. Tightest 5 shot groups are around the size of a Nickel or Quarter. It does look a lot cooler than the 25N that I had, though. I still miss my 25N.

Mine is a tack driver. It's been putting squirrels and rabbits in the cast iron for a lot of years! One of my favorite guns.

Man, I keep reading "tack driver" and "Shooter" I am swinging back towards a Marlin. I read a review here, http://forum.snipershide.info/showthread.php?t=64191
And it was a thorough review of the two rifles, with the Marlin edging out the Savage. Is the Marlin 25 and 925 the same as far as barrel and receivers?

As the Marlin has had some Aesthetic changes between the model 25 and 925, the receiver and barrel remain mostly unchanged, which will be mentioned several times.

The problem with some models is they only have one action screw. My 25M did, but I added one and bedded the receiver and it made lots of difference. Mine is an early 80's model. There is also a trigger mod where you replace a spring with one from a bic pen.

Once again, rimfirecentral.com is the best resource for all that is .22.

Me too. I have one, and adore it. Ancient, exotic, shoots fantastic! Using 89grn NOE FNGC "boolits".

I pulled my old 20 out yesterday,and shot it some..I had pretty much forgotten about it,but this thread ,and the Glenfield 60 thread has me itching to do something with it..I never liked the light stock,so I think I'll start with staining it darker.I can'tcomplain about the trigger,it dosn't feel bad at all,and belive it ,or not that little Japanese scope is deadly accurate at 50 yards,just not much field of view.I probably will keep it too,mainly for nostalgia..

I've got the Marlin Model 25, had a trigger job done to it and glass bedded the action and it is one sweet shooting rifle even with the inexpensive scope I've got mounted on it. On another forum I was challenged to shoot at 100 yards with any .22LR and see if I could get moa groups, which at the time I thought was impossible. Now I'm a believer, thought you had to have a souped up Ruger 10-22 to do that kind of shooting , man was I wrong.
