The guns of a lot of those guys are in the museum at Cody. I remember seeing the Bonanza bunch's guns and rigs along with Paladin's, Marshall Dillon's, etc..
Johnny Western did the theme song from Paladin if I remember right, and last I knew he was still kicking around.

Four of us kids rode horses to school between two ranches.. At recess we were the Lone Ranger, Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, and Red Ryder. It was tough bein' heroes and no villains to shoot but we kept ourselves entertained. We sure kilt lots of bad guys and Injuns.

One day my folks sent a message with me for the teacher to send me home at noon.

When I got home we loaded in the car and drove to Cheyenne.
We got there just in time for me to meet the Lone Ranger before he boarded the train. He gave me a silver bullet.

It's got a few miles on it, but what the heck, that was back in 1948. Didn't know until a few years ago that the case came apart and there is a compass inside.

When the Korean War started, we didn't quite understand who Stalin was, but every day at the end of the last recess, we stuffed our guns and holsters in a badger hole in a dirt bank and plugged it up with a rock.
We sure din't want Stalin sneakin' into the one room school house during the night and stealin' our guns.

I wasn't in the radio era but I did watch the live runs of all the shows mentioned here. There were so many you could not remember them all but it is fun trying to and seeing the names of the forgotten ones.

Someone once compared Skeeter Skelton to Richard Boone in appearances.

Richard Boone played some characters in the movies (Big Jake, The Shootist) that you could almost smell in the theater.

Richard Boone starred in Halls of Montezuma a movie that pops up now and then. Really great cast.

Not to mention Cicero Grimes in "Hombre".

"Cicero Grimes meet John Russell"

Mom's restaurant was right next to a movie theater. I was there when Lash Larue and his horse Black Diamond came by about 1950. If you are old enough to remember Lash Larue then you should be able to remember Paladin, no sweat. If you never saw Lash Larue, take a look at any Indiana Jones movie, he trained Harrison Ford with the bullwhip.

It always seemed so strange to me to him him say, "Hey boy ... " and it not be the type of Southern greeting I was used to.

Have gun will travel reads the card of a man
A knight without armor in a savage land
His fast gun for hire heeds the calling wind
A soldier of fortune is a man called Paladin
Paladin Paladin where do you roam Paladin Paladin far far from home

He travels on to wherever he must
A chess knight of silver is his badge of trust
There are campfire legends that the plainsmen sing
Of a man with the gun of the man called Paladin
Paladin Paladin where do you roam Paladin Paladin far far from home
Far far from home far far from home

Harry Carey Jr. worked with Richard Boone on several occasions and recalls his experiences in his book, "Company of Heros". Dobie said he always enjoyed working on that series and with Mr. Boone.

Apparently after a day's shooting of "Have Gun Will Travel" on location, the liquid refreshments would flow freely...

Any fan of the old western movies would enjoy the book.
