I saw it within the past 2 weeks. Can't remember channel but think it was the History (military) channel.
And......to further simplify the issue, I ...forgot...the 4 letter designation for it.
I'd like to read more about it.
An amazing weapon. Microprocessor INSIDE the bullet. (or bomb if you will)
Explosive rounds and fairly light weight for 2 men to operate. An amazing comparison to how many .50 cal guns it would replace.
Laser sight could range-find on a wall and then they fired a round through the window of the wall with the projectile programmed to explode just inches PAST the wall so the shrapnel would kill the guy BEHIND the wall.
Yeeeeowww!
Also the "beaten zone" was just a mass of explosions when they fired it with the conventional "blow up on impact" function.

Initials were something like "OS sumpin sumpin" Think it was for "squad operated ...sumpin sumpin.

Seems no reason to restrict public ownership of almost ANYTHING with the army having a thing like this.

Any info or links?

Think it was 23mm.

That rings a bell, I've seen the demo a couple of times, but can't remember the weapon. THe demo video was pretty amazing- hiding behind that wall sure wasn't a safe place to be!

Its the OICW. Objective Individual Combat Weapon.

It's basically 2 guns in one. The HK XM-8 mounted underneath a 20mm "Cannon".

It's a little too bulky at this point, so the military has decided to work on the individual parts seperatly, so they are looking to adopt the XM-8 in the next few years, with the 20mm cannon to follow later.

Here is alink.

itgoesboom...... Reeeeeallll close. But the one in the show was tripod mounted and didn't have the small cal. included. But you said it was being developed separately so that may be the case.

Talk about a "COMBO" gun. Doves and elephant (or tanks) with same gun.

Sounds like something the troops could use now, wonder if they could rush this into the field like they did JSTARS in the first gulf war. BTW Harry Tuttle I think I'm right behind you on Santa's List. Is that Tuttle as in Brazil?

Its crew served, so when Santa delivers, y'all can come over and harrass the Giant Samurai that have been plodding about my fair city

Mine may only shoot these though:
