Who will defend America?

Recently we've all heard the "good" news from the NRA....this state is making a law so that our guns won't be confiscated by power hungry mayors in time of emergencies, this state is going to protect gun owners rights by deeming employee parking lots as free zones for
concealed carriers, that state has just passed the Castle Doctrine, etc. etc.

All the while we are facing a MAJOR ban on practically every type of weapon. We're all scrambling to find out if there are grandfather or sunset clauses, because as much as we hate to admit it, we are that sure it will pass.

In the mean time, America's very sovreignity is at stake...on our borders, with all the back door manuvering toward the North American Union, and perhaps most frighting, the scaffolding is in place for the systematic disarming of all Americans, thus destroying our very Constitution.

This has all been a long time coming, and it seems to be coming to a crisis point now. For years, laws in direct violation of the Second Amendment have been passed -- with no question, with no outcry.Illegal aliens are granted rights only afforded to CITIZENS of the Republic, Jihadists are afforded rights of American Citizens as they await a trial they do not deserve, and American Soldiers are being tried for doing their duty! Yet no one in power sees anything wrong with that.

Friends and fellow patriots, our Constitution is quickly becoming nothing less than an old piece of paper, and with it our Republic is dying.

Will we all just stand by and watch America die? This is exactly the situation that the 2nd Amendment was written for -- so that the People may protect the Free State.

(i am new here, so if this post is out of line with your guidelines, for i do level some stiff accusations, please delete this thread....thanks)

Pistol, welcome.

I will defend it, I think a lot of people will, it's just gonna take a catalyst to set it off.:(

No, I don't think you can be too passionate about freedom. My wife used to think the same about me, then I started showing her all the stuff that is going on and now she is starting to get it. I'm in Beaver county, have inlaws in Harmarville.:)

ppw, welcome.

We've gone around and around on these issues, quite often. Nobody has come up with any politically acceptable solutions; that is, acceptable to the majority of voters.

Now: If responses in this thread get into the old and tired bashing style, I'm gonna delete bash-posts without comment and possibly close it without further comment.

IOW, rational thoughtfulness, only.

Pacodelahoya -- we're near you, in Lawrenceville (ick!) until end of April

Art -- i figured as much.....feel free to delete the thread as you see fit. guess these kinds of questions are the first i ask of folks i meet, and being new here i wanted to bring it up :)

I contest this statement. For one, you don't speak for "we" or anyone else other than yourself.

That is far too defeatist and paranoid, and that isn't a personal attack because I'm hearing this type of thing around here quite a bit.

Folks, it hasn't even been heard in committee. There's a lot of things that have to happen first. We still have a lot of options. We're 10x more powerful than we were in 1994 - due in part to the interent which allows us great power in massing awareness.

I was at a gunshow today, and looking at the people there, I'd say 90% are oblivious to our cause. Just your regular old self-serving people buying guns but never offering the slightest bit to defend that freedom. Despite that, (because that also existed in 1994) we have much more ability now because back then, even many hard-core RKBA fighters were not up to date, didn't know the details, couldn't see the moves that were happening. Political awareness and action was much, much slower. Now, a Congress critter can't fart without the internet reporting on it.

We can bombard them with a letter writing, fax and email campaign the likes of which has never been seen before. We can send a strong message across. We also have some allies on TV today, not great ones, but in 1994 we had ZERO. We have more scholars now, we have more pundits now. It's not going to be as easy for them this time around, and it wasn't easy the first time.

STOP ACTING LIKE IT'S A DONE DEAL.

Fear and panic is contagious - get rid of it now. Fighting requires strength, determination and positive attitude.

I'm not an American, but I got here as quickly as I could.

I'm not yet a citizen (heck, I only have an annual work-permit, not even a Green Card yet) but I joined the NRA today because I've been a shooter since I was knee-high to the proverbial grasshopper and I'm getting real tired of arrogant politicians in this fantastic country pass BS legislation that gives the appearance of "doing something about crime" but affects nobody but the law-abiding.

Man, if my boss allowed me the "illusion of doing work" instead of actually doing it, I'd be fired on the spot.

Don't Tread On Me: i'm sorry if you thought my "we" was anything other than a general "people"

you're right about needing to stay positive and powerful, that's what i want people to stand up and do. sorry if it was too doomsday for you, but in my experience that is what's needed to make some people stand up and act.

Andy: Welcome! I thank you for going through the proper channels to become a citizen! and i thank you for seeing what's really happening here -- the illusion vs doing.

Welcome! I'm a bit new here myself, although I've been reading stuff here and on TFL as well for quite a while.

Gun owners face some troubling obstacles in the months and years ahead.

However, I would not go so far as to say that AWB2 is all but a done deal. I don't feel that way. It hasn't gathered sponsorship, and McCarthy has tried it EVERY year since AWB1 sunsetted in 2004. It probably won't be sponsored without some heavy editing to make it more like AWB1.

I think there is a bit of a Chicken Little syndrome going on here, that the sky is falling on our heads. Again, McCarthy tries this bill every year, and it fails to get out of committee. 99% of bills introduced fail to get out of committee.

So I think we have to remain alert, but let's not be worried. Write your representatives and voice your displeasure, and in the meantime, it's not a bad time to buy hi-cap mags, AR-15's, and semi-auto shotguns if you were planning to get them in the near future.

There is no impending AWB.

The AWB renewal bill gets re-introduced every year. So far, this year it has NO co-sponsors. It will probably never make it out of committee, but even if it does, I don't think it will come anywhere near passing on the floor of the House, even under Democrat control.

We still have a few Americans remaining in the USA but they are being overwhelmed by third world immigrants with no devotion whatsoever to our founding principles. Furthermore, our indigenous population has been dumbed down by frivolous amusements and an educational system which at best is failing in its principal responsibility to produce good citizens and at worse is actively attempting to subvert and undermine our traditional values.

Who will be left to fight? Well, those few real Americans will fight, but their numbers are dwindling. We are in a heap of trouble. The USA WILL be hit soon. This is not conjecture. I would give the probability at 80% in five years and 99% in ten years. But a terrorist attack is really the least of the problems facing our country and, paradoxically, may be what ultimately saves us from amusing ourselves to death. The real threat is the huge fifth column of subversives who hate America and her traditions.

To borrow from Mark Steyn: Demography is destiny and we are NOT reproducing in sufficient numbers to stave off the onslaught of third worlders who are presently overwhelming the indigenous population of the USA. Yes, we are in deep deep doo-doo. Tribalism of the worst sort will revisit these shores once the wheels come off. It will be "us" against "them." The biggest problem will be finding "us," those with similar values and aspirations.

Welcome Wifey !

While I think those concerned about chicken little syndrom are trying to find a retoric that doesn't sound ratical , I also believe it would be nieve to ignore the danger that exists for firearm owners, and those who believe freedom shouldn't be something our government dishes out to us, or takes away at their whim.

I don't have the answer myself other than to attempt to gather enough folks to assure those who make laws of a struggle with my like minded citizens. Wether that be at the voting booth, or otherwise.

A recent thread of 20-07 is a good example of what can get started and it will be effective if enough gun owners will stand behind it. We need to stop taking the bones that are thrown at us , and remind out government electives who should be in charge, and who they should be thinking of when they are sitting at their desks, and on the floor or our house .

I have a tendancy to not be very optimistic as I feel the elective officials are quite frankly bought to serve the interests of the money machines that fund their campains. Only powerful,or well connected ,or famous people have even a minute chance at federal office. Few seem to take their oath of office to protect the constitution as being something important when it comes to action.

With that said, for the present it seems to me that we have to fight back with every lawful means we can to protect ourselves. As individuals we can do very little - as a motivated group, I think it is possible to make a difference.

My opinion is that a significant percent of the the Democrat congress don't feel secure enough to jump on the ban wagon yet. If they make further gains in the next election then I expect not so good things from the fence sitters who will suddenly feel much more secure. I am encouraging my congressman every chance I get so he knows I appreciate his stance on 2A. I hope those of you lucky enough to have such a congressman are doing same. Our problem in Ohio is our two Senators (one of each flavor and not a lick of difference re 2A or much of anything else for that matter).

That is far too defeatist and paranoid

I agree, I find it so disheartening that people live their lives as if there is a huge conspiracy that will give the government ultimate control "one day soon". I often wonder what the basis for all the paranoia is. I understand the Anti propaganda but this isn't something new. Relax guys take the Tin-foil hats off and enjoy life. What rational freedoms are we denied as of today? Honest question.

Jihadists are afforded rights of American Citizens as they await a trial they do not deserve

If the government decides that certain people don't "deserve" trials, there's no point in defending America. It's already finished. The rate of false positives in the DHS terrorist hunt has also been alarmingly high.

But things aren't that dire yet by a long shot.

Paranoia is 90% of what's on page 1 of this forum. Paranoia in itself is not productive.

I think it's far more productive to buy all the guns and ammo you want while you can, write your representatives to voice your displeasure, and go on living your life comfortably knowing that you have armed yourself well.

As for registering your guns with the state or perhaps eventually the federal gov't, hey, I leave that up to you. A good citizen obeys the law, but a good patriot obeys laws while mindful that there is a higher law, the Constiution 2nd Amendment.

Use this link to contact them all....

And welcome!

Contact the Judiciary Committee which is where these bills are now.
* HR 2038, the Assault Weapons Ban and Law Enforcement Protection Act: Congresswoman McCarthy has introduced legislation that would make the assault weapon and high-capacity magazine ban permanent, and also significantly strengthen current law. Her bill would expand the definition of “assault weapon” to include post-ban “copy cat” weapons, closes a loophole allowing kits to be sold to modify legal weapons into assault weapons, and enhances the tracing of assault weapons, among other things.

* HR 3831: Congresswoman McCarthy has introduced legislation with her colleague Congressman Castle of Delaware that would extend the Assault Weapons Ban for another 10-years.

* National Instant Criminal Background Check Database (NICS) Enhancement Unfortunately, the states and some Federal agencies do not provide all disqualifying records to the FBI needed for a complete background check for gun purchases. Congresswoman McCarthy has introduced legislation to correct this gap.

* HR 3237, the NICS Improvement Act: Congresswoman McCarthy’s legislation would provide grants to states to upgrade information and identification technologies for firearms eligibility determinations and require all Federal agencies that have records on persons for whom it is illegal to purchase a firearm to provide that information to the Attorney General for inclusion in NICS.

What rational freedoms are we denied as of today? Honest question.

New London vs Kelo

Jose Padilla took several years to get to trial.

Gun confiscations in New Orleans.

War on some drugs and the innocent victims of no knock warrants.

Dui checkpoints

All gun laws. (not the ones concerning misuse of course)

Enough?

What rational freedoms are we denied as of today? Honest question.

Rather than shooting this thread off onto a big discussion on that issue, I will simply say the you will find a whole lot of opinion on what is "rational" , or reasonable for that matters.

My honest answer - a lot more than I want to cover without starting a new thread.
