Who would ever want a junky old 22 caliber revolver?

I picked this sweet old girl up today from my local gun shop that seems to always have some interesting curiosities. It's (from the best I can gather) a 1947 S&W K-22 Masterpiece, Post War, 3rd Model Pre Model 17 (Jeez! No wonder S&W went to just model numbers...that's quite a mouth full!).
The finish is not original, but its in very good shape.

Here's a picture of my new pride and joy on my car seat, still in the parking lot of the gun shop:

I have a couple of "old, junky" guns. But they are family hierlooms, and they're not going anywhere until I hand them down.

That picture makes it look like it's plated! ! ! !

Funky grip scales though. Not my idea of the right stuff for a grand ol' shooter like this one. Perhaps get some nice looking Arrends woodies for it as a "welcoming" present.... :D

BC - it is plated. It's got a fairly well executed nickel finish. I agree that something needs to be done about the grips. Maybe some sort of fake stag or fake bone.

Can you tell if that is a factory plating job? The factory did not plate the hammer, trigger or extractor star. It is hard to tell from the photo.

There are no marks on the frame that would indicate that the plating was done at the factory. The trigger, hammer, and rear sights are all plated. I would be very surprised if it was a factory nickel job.

It's aftermarket plating. Hammer and trigger never done by S&W and there were only a small handful of these in factory nickel. Should be fun to shoot. Mine is...

Nice find. It's no S&W but I grabbed an Arminius HW357 revolver a while back for $150 in pretty good shape. It shoots great so I'm happy with the old "junk" gun.

I'm going to order some modern K Frame Magna grips from S&W while I try to track down something more appropriate. Those goofy grips are at least Franzite...sort of to revolvers of the 40's and 50's what Pachmayr was to revolvers of the 80's.

hAkron, my wife and I both love nickel revolvers.... and yours is absolutely beautiful!! Congratulations on your find.

Not "junky" at all in my opinion; just that she took a wrong turn somewhere in her long and interesting life. Find some nice factory grips for her and she will look just fine in her new adopted home. Enjoy and thanks for sharing.

I don't mind those old clunkers if the price is right. Got one and am waiting for a good opportunity to give it to my kids.

I'd be pretty proud of that K22 if it found its way into my safe.

Might even let go of a Single-Six to get it there. :D

WHOA, HEY! Let's not get too hasty here and say somthin' that we might regret!:eek::eek:

I mean, gettin' rid of ANY gun.. Sheesh! That's just be NASTY! :neener:

Great looking 22. I'd definitely love to have it in my "meager but mine" safe.
