Yeah that would be a neat job.I was going to go with Elmer Keith or Julian Hatcher. Keith because of my interest in long-range pistoleering, Hatcher because he had the incredible resources of the then-Ordnance Department to play with.
With you or I wrecking a pressure gun or a Garand, it would be a Big Deal. With him it was just all in a day's work.*

* One of my favorite incidents was when they were experimenting with barrel obstructions. At one point, they fired the gun (remotely) and nothing happened but the click of the firing pin fall. Approaching cautiously, thinking that maybe the cartridge had in fact fired, and all that pressure was still in the gun. So they tapped the bolt open with a long stick. A loud pop ensued and the empty shell was ejected smartly enough that it embedded itself in the wall. What fun!
