I must be nuts but I kinda went crazy.

Bought two .22 semi-autos at the gunshow this weekend. Couldn't make up my mind so I bought both. Marlin 60 and Ruger 10/22. Went from having no 22 rifle to having 2 of the best. Bought them from the same guy and got both for less than $500. I am going to get a box or two of every kind of good .22 ammo and carefully and methodically try them all out and record how the different ammo works in each before I stock up in earnest.

I need some resources on how to clean and lube these guys. I am used to rifles and pistols that are made to field-strip easily (Glocks, Mausers, Moisins, M&Ps, etc).

I have a .22 boresnake so the barrel is covered.

How do you all care for these and keep them running well...lube- and cleaning-wise?

Both are pretty easy to drop the trigger assembly and access the bolt and what not.

I just do that on occassion, other than cleaning the bore.

This past weekend I helped a friend get into the sport with her first firearm purchase. We were back and forth between a 10/22 as well and Marlin Model 60. She ended up taking home stainless/synthetic 10/22 home for 210.00. Think she got a good deal.

That was at the Brookings, SD gun show. I ended up taking a CZ 527 in .22 hornet home myself.

they are both a huge pain in the butt to strip. That said, you can find in depth tutorials online with pictures if you just google search.

Myself, i just run a bore snake down them, wipe them down with a clean rag, and re-lube with graphite grease.

Mr. Trooper

Yeah, that's what I've heard...about all .22 semis. So I take it that these guys run well enough with that approach vs. let's say an AR that needs cleaning more often.

How about like spraying some CLP up in the works now and again and blowing it out with air? Both of my guns have the wooden stocks.

Actually i find that my 10/22 is one of the easiest rifles I own to strip. As a bonus if you keep track of were you take stuff off of its really easy to put back together. That said I just wipe off all the medal in the receiver, run a bore snake though the barrel and oil. Takes me about 3 minutes all together. Enjoy the Ruger, its the King of semi 22lrs.

Sometimes the bolt on the 10/22 can be hard to get out if it has not been out in a while or the gun is new. Not all the time, just sometimes. Just keep playing with it gently it will come out.

Neither are too difficult to strip. Once you get the hang of getting the recoil spring back it's easy. PIA first several times.

Anyone else notice the price?

The OP said both where under $500. Unless the 10/22 is modified up, I would think that is a very high price. Both great guns but new cost should be in the $350 range.

Price = $410 for both.

I got both for a total of $410...2 for $410...and change...couldn't pass that up! Both NIB...both basic wood stocks. He had a lot of stainless synthetics and I think he wanted to divest of the wooden ones. Although I walked away twice to get my price. I am assuming you thought I paid "less that $500" for each. I am pretty sure $410 is at least a decent deal for two nice new guns.

Sorry

I didn't mean to shoot you down, when I hear gunshow I think used guns and 2 for $500 would have been a BAD deal. Prices could be up more than I think too. $410 is a different number altogether, that and them being new guns. I used to see (1-2 years ago) marlin 60's used for 60-90 bucks and 10/22 for 150-200 used. I didn't mean to sound negitive.

I bought my first marlin back about 88-89 for 60.00 They're about 160-170.00 for the plain jane ones if you look hard enough.

Very very few Ruger 10/22's on the used market, everyone buys them up and strips them down. 193.00 at Wally's 210-230.00 is about average for gun shops. Around here anyways

And if the OP is happy with what he paid, than that's all that matters.

Neither are very hard to strip either, you don't even have to take them all the way down. Just drop the trigger assembly and brush/blow them out if you don't care to go into them any further.

It's cool zx12. I knew what you meant.

I am so happy I can hardly count! I was back and forth on buying a .22 or something centerfire for more money(came into a little bit of cash...step-kid moved out and I sold his car which I bought for him). When I found out I could get two of these nice guns for that price...whammo.

The place was a zoo and it took 2 hours to get the paperwork done but it was worth it.

He was asking $229 for the marlin and I think $299 for the Ruger. I said look, here's 4 Benjamins...give me both of them. He said no way...I walked. I came back...showed him the $400 again. He said $480...I walked, more slowly this time. I came back once more...said here's 4 Benjamins and he bit. I'll bet I heard "do you take credit cards?" 100 times at that show. The cash helped.
