I have a 1981 Ruger Security Six 4in blued model. Been toting it around for so long I can't recall the last time it gave me a problem. Wait!!!! It never has. All these years carrying this, shooting it, not once have I ever had a reason to cuss it.
Just a rock solid 357 Ruger turned out. Bill gave us a gun that keeps right on going. One day my boy will get, but for now I just keep on keeping on with this fine revolver.
Any Security Six pistoleers care to chime in?

Yeah, I've got one. Mine is an early '80s model too (I think), only mine's stainless with a 4" barrel.
I actually did have a problem, or problems with mine though, but they weren't Ruger's fault. I bought it used, and because I knew it had problems when I bought it, I got it real cheap. Some Bubba had done some kitchen table gunsmithing on it, and it wasn't safe to use - I could put a little pressure on the hammer with my thumb (when it was cocked) and actually cause the hammer to drop.
So, I bought it, shipped it straight to Ruger, and a few weeks later it came back working perfectly - no charge.
I reaching the age now (75) when I feel like I probably should be getting rid of a few guns. I figure my Security Six will probably be one of the last to go though. :)

Used to own a bunch of them, meaning blued and stainless Security, Service and Speed-Sixes. Only have 1 left (out of sheer stupidity in letting them slip through my fingers and thinking Ruger would make that workhorse forever).

A 4" stainless Service-Six, with the Square Butt filed off to Round Butt, and it got sent to MagNaPort in older days to receive their Duty Tune (and porting).

I bought a used 4" Security Six in 1982.

Built like a tank.

I'd fire one or two 50 round boxes of Remington 125gr .357 Magnum. The old guys would constantly ask me, "Do your hands hurt?" I had no idea what they were asking because I didn't know my hands were apparently supposed to hurt after firing that much .357 Magnum. Ignorance is bliss!

I've owned a couple over the years. Both Speed and Security-Six model's. Second handgun I ever bought was a 2 3/4" Speed-Six as a matter of fact. First was a S&W Model 19. It would have been a great CC gun, but back then you had to know someone, who knew someone, who knew someone to get a CC permit. I didn't know anybody so that gun didn't stick around long.

The Six's were good guns. When Ruger quit making them and went to the GP-100, I stopped looking at Ruger D/A revolvers. Nothing wrong with the GP I suppose, I just never warmed up to it.

I had one problem with a Security-Six that would bind up when shooting, especially with lead bullet reloads. I sent it back to Ruger, they fixed it. End of problem. Don't know what the problem was. They didn't say, and I didn't ask. It just got fixed.

I don't own one anymore, but that's just because I've become more of a "Smith and Wesson guy" these days, (with a minor in Colt) than anything else.

Still have the last of even I have owned. Late, 2 3/4" blue. After three blue 6", a blue 4", two stainless 4".
None have ever given me trouble and all but one still reside with relatives. Guns I'm not afraid to give to loved ones.
Yup, gave my last Security Six to my SIL. He shoots, but not really a "gun guy." Figured if he was only gonna have one revolver, it should be indestructible, corrosion resitant and easy to find ammo for.

Received a stainless 4" Security Six as partial payment for helping a "friend" plant 2k Christmas trees back in the early 90's.

It came with Pachmyers and a S&W branded leather thumbreak holster that was a a perfect fit.

I've got this revolver a lot over the years (all my reloads, the vast majority being run of the mill, cast bullet .38spl) and it's ran like a champ every single time.

My dad was a big fan of mine and found an identical one at a gunshow.

He added a set of Houge wood grips and since it had a lot of very fine scratches, sat down with a Dremel/felt wheel and some Flitz and gave it a high polish.

I gave it to my sister when she asked for something to keep handy for HD duty.

Great gun. I have two stainless and 1 blued. 6,4 2.3/4. Never had any trouble with them. You can still find parts.
