Who's got a Ruger Security Six

I have a 200yr centenial mod 4" stainless bought 2rs ago like brand new with box and papers paid $500 and have no regrets, this thing is great and fits my hand nice, as far as recoil you know you are shooting a 357Mag with full house hand loads and yeah thats what I am talking about, 180grn Cast Performance Heat treated hard cast gas check will destroy anything, Ron

This Security Six was my first center fire revolver. Bought it used at a small town sporting goods store where I grew up. I was in my early 20s, just turned 68. It was responsible for getting me into reloading and casting bullets IMG_1402.jpeg because I couldn’t afford to feed it store bought ammo 😁 I had it for 10 years or so then sold it for some stupid reason. Then many years later the guy I sold it to offered it back to me. She’s home to stay this time. I still have the original grips but never got along with them. I put the Presentations on shortly after I bought it. Liked them then and I like them now. I love pretty wood though so maybe I’ll have to do some shopping 😁

I have a similar story about a Savage 99 that my dad let go and later bought back.

Glad you Ruger returned home!

My $300 Six! I use it to test .357 hott loads!

Looks Good! but some $70 wood shoes will make her shine!

My Security Six shown with its GP relative. Primarily shoot target loads at 50 yds. and never had an issue with either gun after thousands of rounds. These are two of 'several' Rugers I own and I enjoy them all. However, a pox on whoever designed that hammer spur...I mean, seriously? 60E17EE8-FE56-4D6D-A7EB-E6B7F840DCD8.jpeg

I need another Security Six like a hole in the head but I'll give you the $500 you paid.

I have five of 'em.

Blued 4" "Low-Back" Security Six
Blued 4" Service Six
Stainless 4" Bicentennial Security Six
Blued 6" Security Six
Stainless 3" USPI Contract Speed Six

They were loss leaders for Ruger. The company went to producing the GP100 because they were cheaper to produce. Ruger actually lost money in the Six Series of revolvers because they were costly to make.

Fantastic mid-frame sized guns. I have more guns from the Six Series than the GP100 line.

When I won the NYCPD Service Six 38spl (shown in post #12) for a bid of $305 on GB it reminded me of deal you got on the Security Six. Photos: GB ad, as it would've come from Ruger factory, Service Six and Speed Six after hammer swap.

Ive always had an unreasonable dislike of the GP, but man, that one is sharp! 👍

I have three Speed Sixes, one 4”, and the others snubbier, plus, a 6” Security Six. The Security Six was in quite nice condition, when I bought it, except that the front sight was bent, and the rear sight blade damaged. (Carried little; dropped once?) For a while, I wanted to have a custom ‘smith shorten the barrel to 5”, so, the gun sat in the safe for a long time, awaiting that project, but lately, I have been leaning toward installing a good scope or optic mount, installing a strictly cosmetic front sight, to fill the open slot, and leaving the barrel as-is. Somewhere along the way, I started really liking the look of 6” barrels.

Bought my 6" stainless used in 1976. Bullseye/Trapper springs to lighten the trigger pull while retaining 100% reliability, Pachmayr grips. At present a bedside gun.
I do have an SP101, bought springs and shims from MCarbo. It's my understanding that while these a good revolvers, they aren't as good as the 6's.

I have a 6" and a 3". No pictures of the 3- it's having some work done.
