I buy guns for a purpose, but the choice is tempered by aesthetics and nostalgia and form and function. I bought my 9mm after seeing Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon. I have an A-Team Mini-14. Chuck Connors made me buy a lever action. I took up Cowboy Action Shooting because of Roy Rogers and John Wayne.

On my "to do" list is:
Dirty Harry's .44 Magnum
Bond's PPK
Capone's Thompson

What do you have a desire for that stems from a fond memory?

After reading about the .50 caliber sniper rifle, I want one!! I think what impressed me the most is how the bullet can go through steel like butter.

"This time John Wayne does not walk off into the sunset with Grace Kelly. "- Hans.

yippe ki yay...

a marlin in 45/70
a SAA .45lc
a nice nagant
and a weatherby .460 mag!

there are no movie star guns I want but anybody who owns a 100% correct all original new from factory WW2 era Garand,Springfield or Winny....I want it!

eh who am I kidding,I want Rambo's M60 also.......

Bought a few AKs after watching Red Dawn......

Watching Saving Private Ryan made me finally get my CMP order going for an M1 Garand......

I have always liked seeing the 1911 in use in war movies, thats my daily carry.....

Have a K98 Mauser for the same reason as well as a Mosin Nagant - Enemy at the Gates

I have some SKSs, they can be seen being used by the VC in We Were Soldiers (as well as countless other movies)

Not all of these are memories, but all are of people who've had an influence on my personal development. Some are pure pipedreams, though.

Patton's revolvers and Colt 1908.
MacArthur's (near-unused) WWI 1911 (used) derringer and (alleged) Colt 1903. And maybe not a firearm, but relevant because it packed so many bigbores, the USS Nashville, his command ship at Leyte Gulf.

ANY of the 1911A1's my grandfather carried (not famous, but it's still "whose guns?")

Eliot Ness's Thompson--and Capone's, side by side.
Crockett's rifle used at the Alamo.

The Executioner's .44 AutoMag, .44 and .50 Desert Eagles, and Beretta 93-R.

Gunny Hathcock's old rifle.

Bruce Willis' character in Last Man Standing's pair of left/right 1911s--and #47's from the Hitman series of PC games.

The ubiquitous CIA silenced Ruger Mark II or 22/45.

Any of the weapons used by my great-uncle when he had a hand in liberating one of the camps in Germany during the Big One.

Jack Coughlin's Barrett. ([SHAMELESS PLUG]Shooter--book well worth the read.[/SHAMELESS PLUG])

I've been disappointed more than once, when I actually owned or fired guns made famous by Hollywood.

Disappointment #1. Lethal Weapon. It's not thar Berettas are terrble, it's just that other pistols are so much better. It did break my heart to learn that no pistol can draw 1/2" segment smiley faces at distances so far you cannot distinguish the bullseye. "Have a nice day."

Disappointment #2. Miami Vice. Crockett carried a Bren Ten for the first few seasons, and did everyone notice that all the shootouts were exactly the same? Bad guys shoot first, "pop, pop, pop." Tubbs draws his snubbie, "Bang Bang!" Then Crocket shoots the 10mm, "BOM BOOM!!" Crockett's gun was always the loudest. And he never missed once. I had the opportunity to shoot one many years ago, and my impression at the time was a cumbersome gun that thumped like a mule. (I do find myself wondering how the 10mm Wtness feels.)

Affirmation. "Get rid of that nickel-plated sissy gun and get yourself a Glock." I did so. I was never disappointed. This is one of few pieces of advice that will work for pretty much everyone.

Actually, I've had good luck with various firearms that were used in movies, more or less. I'm not so sure what Bruce Willis used in The Last Boy Scout, but I picked up a 3' model 29 around then, and it's a good one. No comment on Arnold movies, but the .50 Desert Eagle was something I bought because I was certain it would be discontinued and hence the next Auto Mag.
That joke was on me.
In my The Wild Bunch moment, my super low serial number Norinco '97 spewed extractor/ejector mechanism all over the trap shooting field, and still isn't fixed five years later.
Basically nothing movie related worked out except S&W 28's, 29's, 58's, and anything with a Colt pony on it. I do have a DeVel that's hot stuff, but not exactly a movie gun, except in the sense that it's kind of a cousin to the ASP, and so sort of a third cousin twice removed from a Bond gun.

I bought a Ruger P90....and by sheer coincidence, its on the cover of True Lies in Arnolds hands and also he uses it various times in the movie. Did I mention I watched that movie a hundred times as a teenager? Then one day I was watching it on TV and it was like, "DUDE! Thats my Ruger!!!!!"

We have the GE microwave oven, great for kids.

...and over here we have the 20lb. GE fully automatic belt-fed machine gun, great fun for the whole neighborhood! You can mount it in the house, by the pool, on the family vehicle, or you can just pick it up and take it with you! Check locals laws and regulations. Mounting kit sold seperately...

To prove my true geekdom...

The onyl gun I've ever seen in a show that I've wanted with a passion is Vash the Stampede's pistol from Trigun:

A .45LC Top-break Autorevolver.

I've got diagrams of how it would work, now I just need about $2000 to put it together...
