Just got back from a large Celtic festival (Celtic Classic) held in Bethlehem, PA. Seeing the multitudes moving around from vendors, events, competitions, etc., there were many attendees wearing kilts - and that got me to wondering - how does one CCW wearing a kilt? :scrutiny:

Dang, BullfrogKen beat me to it. :)

Anyway, the most common method (having been in a pipe band) seems to be a small firearm in the sporran.

With a Utilikilt or something similar, there's no reason you couldn't use the same IWB you use with pants. Shoulder holsters would also work fine.

Aren't there any ladies who've been CCWing in a "kilt" (skirt) for years?

I looked at a utilikilt. You could pocket carry anything full size easily, I'm sure. Having thought about it a bit more after this thread, I'd go for a holster that'd go in a pocket. I'm sure you could rig something like that.

Q: "Do you know why they call them Kilts?"

A: "Because we've Kilt everyone what calls them skirts!"

:D

What's under your kilt?

"Your girlfriend's lipstick!" Is the answer I got from my grandfather.
Try the Utilikilt, as it has pockets. Then you can pocket carry.
Smartcarry or thunderwear would work, and access would be easy, but you'd flash the perp before your gun was out.

Nothing is "worn" under my kilt, it is all in perfect working order!!

I have a utilikilt as well. I could pocket carry, but since every time I wear a kilt there is copicous amounts of alcohol involved, firearms stay in the safe :)

And I usually have a dirk or claymore handy, so pistols just seem unnecessary.

Sporan carry would work well though, as would bellybands or even a tuckable IWB if you had a holster that could work around that big belt.

my grandfather ( a scottish imigrant ) used to say...

pop-pop.....what do you wear under your kilt.

"Nothing but the full regimental gear, laddy"

That would work, the distraction gives you more time to get the drop on 'em!:D :p

I've always wondered what gun would be appropriate for open carry with a kilt ... Single Action Army perhaps....?

Webley in .455.

As far as carry: snubby in sporran works great, any way you like with a jacket, and if going as 'tourist in a kilt' wear a lumbar pack, or a fanny pack as a sporran.

You mean sgian dubh ...?

Ohhh, I just Googled "sgian dubh". It's a knife. I thought he was going to put something else in a sock under his kilt :D

We had a guy in the pipe band I play in, that carried a DE .50 strapped to his theigh. Needless to say he was a BIG guy.... He was standing in the Safeway in Estes Park and the thing falls right out of its holster and hits the floor.... clang, thud.... He got the attention of lots of people while he picked up his anti- aircraft weapon....

Oh and to answer the age old question..... shoes and socks

I've wondered how I could carry under my kilt as well. My S&W model 15 seems a little too large for the side pockets of my Utilikilt. A leg holster might be uncomfortable on less than covered skin. Although if I get a P3AT the side pocket would probably be just right.

Yes, boots and socks. :neener:

edit: Surprised to see so many other kilts wearers on this forum, good to see.
