Just to sort of bring us back on topic......anyone remember the Peter's chicklet packs of .22 ammo? A flat little box with a cellophane window.

Our JROTC unit in highschool received .22LR ammo (generally old yellow box Super X or white box match) packed in 500 bricks inside a ".50 cal" ammo cans, the can 5.56 comes in rather than the thin can 7.62 Nato belted comes in.

As a three position 50 foot shooter I always tried to by atleast a 500 round brick of ten 50 round boxes of .22LR in my younger days to insure it all shot to the same place.

I still have a good supply of .22 ammunition for the same reasoning though when I found something real good I would buy 5000 round cases.:)

The ROTC remark made me think of my High School days when we actually has an indoor shooting range for .22. Every year there would be a Turkey shoot of sorts and all students would be invited to participate to help raise awareness and funding.

As for Arty rounds, I was on the M109 A2 which if I'm not mistaken, had a capacity of 34 rounds of 155. Pallets came with 8rds strapped together, so the math doesn't work her either!

This thread has been interesting to me. I never thought so many of us were such a complex and to put it nicely, peculiar group! Why I would bet that half off you switch ends of the Q tip when going from ear to ear while the other half uses the same end to maximize efficiency.

Space and weight limitations.

Space and weight for the wood pallet and volume inside the M109...

And for 60 years I've thought the size of a box of ammo was determined by the amount of ammo one Depression-era shooter would use in 3 years. Learn something new every day.
