Just bought a Rem 1100 today, and the gun looks like it has been out in the field once or twice - all the wear and dings could have come from just being moved about in the safe.

I have really liked the 1100, hunted with my dad's from age 14 till I moved away, and have shot some skeet with a borrowed one to reconfirm how much I like the gun.

I am completely overjoyed - I have been shopping for a nice 1100 for a bit, and am still wowed that I could find a gun like this for $365.00. I almost wonder if I am off kilter a bit, and I'm the butt of some joke at having bought an 1100. If so, it is a happy off kilter...:D

Probably because the "Tacti-Cool" crowd doesn't believe they are worth owning and building in to a "Combat" configuration.

Just be happy they are inexpensive these days..............someday that will change.

Opinion only.
1) - There are a gazillion of them out there in circulation.
2) - The 'B' gun crowd loves to denigrate them because they haven't been revamped every 3 years for the last half century. It doesn't matter what works, it has to be totally new, innovative, and modern. Plastic and aluminum is 'in'. Cleaning is out. Abuse your gun like a real man - wood is not good. 8 pounds is a ton. It's endless.
3) - A lot of new shooters, particularly target shooters, get an 1100, or other semi, and soon find out they are not at all 'cool', because they don't have an over and under. Hence the eternal quests for the "best" O/U under $600, or whatever. Never mind that a $250 1100, or a black plastic Beretta, or a lot of other guns, will handle better than that cheap O/U.
Everyone likes to think they are so independent in their thinking, but I don't think we really are too much. Benelli's marketing has shown me a lot I never dreamed.

Because the new ones have reliability issues and Remington may not be around 5 years from now. Remington's financial results for last quarter were worse then predicted. Remington is being shopped around.

VA herder

Dunno why they're cheap, but this translates into an opportunity, not a problem. The 1100 is an excellent shotgun.

Buy all you can......

Probably since the non-toxic requirements for waterfowl and the hype over 3 and 3 1/2" shells, camo guns etc. have sort of put them in a "surplus-to-needs" status. And of course, the perception they were superceeded by the 11-87.
