Do Remington 1100 Magnum (3") barrels work with Rem 1100 standard (2 3/4") receivers?

The Rem 870 magnum barrels sure do seem to work on my 870 standard receivers without any issues. But I have never disassembled and examined an 1100 magnum and compared it with the standard length receiver. I have not heard of any issues, but I saw one in a gun store and would like to know before I bought a well-crafted paperweight.

Any pointers would be appreciated.

The1100 magnum barrels will fit onto a standard receiver, but will only cycle extremely heavy 2-3/4" shells. It will not eject a 3" shell through the receiver port designed for 2-3/4". Any regular light 2-3/4" shell will be basically a single shot as you manually cycle the bolt as there is not enough gas going through the magnum barrel port to cycle the bolt.

That makes sense. Still, good for 2 3/4" heavy game loads (maybe), and full power buck & slugs, then. Thanks for the help.

Interesting..........the "Steel Shot" 3" chamber barrels sold by Remington said it was OK to shoot 3" steel on non magnum receivers.

Please measure the ejection port on a standard.
I have a Magnum I can measure (bet they're the same)

I killed many a dove w Winchester AA Heavy trap from an 1100 magnum.
What an 1100 magnum also had back in the day..........was a wood stock w a recoil pad.
Kinda nice.

The ONLY differences between a standard and a Magnum 1100 in 12 and 20 ga. are the barrel, and the action sleeve. Except for the markings, the receivers are IDENTICAL. Same springs throughout. Action spring is common to all including 11-87.
The 20 Magnums are a LOT more ammo sensitive than the 12s. I don't think I have seen a 20 Magnum that would cycle with less than Magnum shells - I know mine wouldn't.
