Why are XDs so heavy?

6 oz. really isn't that much more weight.
6oz.s are a lot when they don't have to be there. For those six ounces you could carry another magazine, two left/right defensive folding knives or for two more ounces a Kel-Tec P3AT/Ruger LCP back up gun.

I like the way if you make a statement about any other firearm you have to PROVE it but it you say Glocks are perfect and shoot death rays and work in 0 gravity even on the sun then everyone is supposed to just drink the kool-aid and nod. The design of the XD and the Glock are so similar it is intellectually DISHONEST to bash one and not the other. The only real difference between the XD and the Glock is the XD addresses the real Achilles heel of the Glock by using a match grade conventioally rifled and FULLY SUPPORTED barrel. Maybe they weigh more because they actually use enough steel to support eh case head so you can shoot reloads without loosing a finger.

Before I bought my XD45 service, I carried a SW Model 29 8 3/8 bbl in a shoulder holster. The XD was a joy compared to that pig. It probably explains why I also walk like Igor off Young Frankenstein also.

Glock torture test...

Probably gonna start a war here but here goes.

Wow. Another website that shows a few pictures and makes claims of how a firearm exhibited perfect reliability under extreme conditions. *Yawn*

I've *seen* Glocks malfunction, I've heard of Glocks malfunctioning. I've had an XD malfunction in my own hands before. I believe that these "torture" tests are a bunch of crap. Even if their claims are true, it doesn't mean that your gun will function the same way.

Torture tests are either a marketing scheme to sell guns or they are allegedly performed by fans of a particular make and model of gun.

I am not being critical about Glocks or XDs, or any other company. *Many* manufacturing companies do this sort of thing directly, or through outside parties. It is done routinely in the Biotech industry to prove how much one companies products are superior to anothers. Many scientific journal articles compare technologies. They try to make it appear unbiased, but these technology reviews often have a very strong bias towards one product.

I just think it is funny how people believe everything the read. I also think it is funny how people get involved in get rich quick/pyramid schemes and infomercials. People lie to make money. You can believe what you want.

Amen. Glocks are a 1st class weapon but to say the XD isn't or the Glock is significantly better than the XD is just bogus. They are so close its not worth calling. Same goes for Sig, Smith, Beretta, HK, etc.....The one thing this thread wasn't seemed to answer is why is the XD heavier? is it? Since the frame is polymer I would assume it must mean it was a heavier slide?

Ha Ha. Sorry I just thought it was funny. I get sick of hearing about the glock torture test and threw that in for good measure. I actually like the XDm better but I honestly have nothing bad to say about glock. I also like the 1911 design. Maby I could do a 1911 torture test.

- Insert 1 grain of sand. Still fires
- Insert 2 grains of sand. Fired but wont cycle.
- Insert 3 grains of sand. Wont fire and had to be sent to gunsmith to get slide to cycle again. :D:D:D:D

I just weighed my XD subcompact and it is 1lb 7.5oz. My Beretta Px4 Storm subcompact came in at 1lb 6oz. Both are empty weight no mag.
