Why are you at THR

I used to buy the local Sunday newspaper not so much for all the other items in it, but because there was a sportswriter who had a regular full page column in it. The definition of "old school", he had coached my dad in high school basketball (think back to the 1930's), and through my job, I actually had a chance to briefly meet him once. This man, by his words and his actions, was the epitome of dignity, humility, compassion, honesty, integrity, and graciousness. If there was a polite and sociable way of writing something about someone, this man knew how to do it. And all without even a whisper of vulgarity or impropiety. Not only did he know everything and everyone connected with sports, both at the amateur and professional level, he also could write about it in a way that made you feel like you had been lifelong friends.

That's the same reason I come to THR.

Its not so much of how I got here, but why I stay...

  • Friendly people who are willing to help you.
  • Large member base.
  • Variety of topics (its not focused just on AR's or just 1911's, ect.)

I come here because no one here suffers from Walter Mitty Syndrome. :scrutiny: (Think back to your 10th grade American Literature book of short stories) You likely read it right after Twelve Angry Men. I come here to get inspired to pen my own new story, Twelve Angry Trolls.

Oh, alright…I come here because it’s good info, and mostly good folks. Besides, no one else will take me in. My wife hates me, daughter is embarrassed of me, and my own durned dog bit me. Where else am I gonna go?!

Back to my corner…

THR is an all-encompassing site. Most others focus on a specific group of firearms (i.e. Ruger, Glock, Smith, etc.) When I come to THR I can discuss them all.

Google brought me here :)

After checking out some other gun sites, too many trolls, too much spam...

The only thing I'd change is the No politics rule.. We should have a political sub-forum that is moderated like the rest, and as long as we keep it "high road" and keep the name calling/finger pointing to a minimum, I'm sure we could be fine.

I found that this is THE place to ask any questions about guns, bar none.

I respect and actually want to know a number of the people on THR.
This.

And that would not be possible without the base level of respect, civility, and intelligence that can be found in the membership.

Like all families, we have some that stretch the bounds of respect, civility, and intelligence (and I'm probably in those ranks sometimes). But all in all, this is one of the more adult web sites for the discussion of RKBA topics that I have found.

I also like the VBB colors and layout here better than other places. :)

The need to learn is what brought me here. The members are what made me stay.

This forum helped me pic my first pistol, second, third..... helped me learn how to shoot it well. Info here helped me buy my first rifle this year and I'm slowly learning how to shoot it.

I just wish we could have avatars here and a reputation system.

I like the look of the forums. Clean and easy to read. I can't think of a single forum that I belong to with 40 million ads above the forums and a black or dark grey background. The sites for mall ninja's.

The main thing here at THR for me is the breadth and depth of the forum combined with the civility and lack of filthy language.

Lots of knowledge among members of this forum,

All of the above

Early on, I was afraid to ask questions as a newb to firearms. As soon as I read someone's remark that there are no "stupid questions", I felt it was the right place to be. The informative and readily shared information and opinions have been a great help. THR continues to be a valuable source for anyone who wants to know more about our highly valued freedom.
During the upcoming administration, we will probably see many threats aimed at our rights. I am sure that members of THR will be becoming more active in protecting those rights rather than spouting bad words and thoughts.

I believe Google also led me here, then I browsed around and thought I would like to be part of this. From what I recall, it all happened quickly.

The day I joined, I had remembered coming to this site several times in the past when I had a gun question.

I have come to appreciate the depth of knowledge shown in many posts and that most posts show considerable thought goes into their composition.

A few posts have made me pause and consider some things which I had never really considered fully before.

I like that there's such a diverse group of enthusiasts.
On the one hand, you have the "hey look at my new gun!" guys and on the other, you have people that are expert in their field like Rob and Brownie and SM. And, a lot of inbetweeners.

And, 1 person figured out my username isn't wheelgun-slinger. ;)

THR has alot of friendly members unlike many of the other major gun boards. i can post a topic and i dont have to sift through all the unrelated bs. and in most other gun boards, there are only a few places you can post without bringing out the internet tough guys trying to show off, there are very few of those people on THR. and last, the mods and admin are nice. on every other board i've been on, the mods wont even respond to pm's unless you subscribe and pay a monthly fee.

Doc2005, we did read those 2 at the same time, you are a teacher aren't you? Well I came here through google like many others. I got links from google several times. I love this site, so much info.

Mainly because there is a "High Road" taken by most people here. I have seen very few guys here being problems.

I'm diligent enough that I am going to find the info I seek. I would just as soon do it in an environment without the "Contest d'Urination" and other immature behavior.

Most other forums that are good that I go to I see some of the guys from here based on screen name & there same demeanor.

Organization also helps - things posted in the right forum. I can ignore topics that I don't want at the moment.

Thread locks are not a bad thing. Most seem fitting.

I also feel there is fairness and consistency in the way moderators moderate here. At least better than most places. Given the consideration that they are human and doing it as volunteers.

It is what we make it.

+2
The knowledge and experience the other members provide is invaluable. THR gives you the feeling of sitting in a chat room with a group of friends from different States, and just chewing the fat about a common interest.:)
