Why aren't Ruger semi-auto pistols popular?

Even if he is discussing the 3rd Gen S&W pistols, I'd take issue with the idea that the other guns he lists are better. Some of them may well be more popular, but the steel frame 3rd gens are in my experience the most reliable semi-autos made. How many Glocks, HKs, XDs, etc. will feed wadcutters or even empty fired cases? In my experience S&W autos will without any trouble at all.

If I was limited to one semi-automatic pistol it would be a steel frame third gen in .45 ACP, probably a 4566 TSW.

Landric, I agree. If there is one S&W pistol I wish I still had it is a 4506-1 that I owned. It was big but superb.

Been thinking abut selling one of my guns so I can get a 4566tsw as an HD pistol actually. They are fantastic pistols.

I have a 4506 I would be willing to part with, Im raising cash for a motorcycle project. Lemme know

I have a P345 and it's a great gun. I just prefer other pistols for carry more. I will say that the P345 is in my BOB in my basement. Oiled, loaded, and I know I can leave it there for years if I have to and it will do the job when it needs to. Ruger semi-autos are the kind of gun you could lock in a toolbox in your garage and never check up on it, but still know it will work if you need it.

How is that?

Philo, this is not a history board so I will be brief. No legal authority to attack another country. No legal authority to use the military. Killed, raped etc civilians and torched houses of bystandards (read about Sherman's March to the Sea)

As to the M&P's popularity, I wonder how those numbers are without the heavily discounted police sales.

Glocks are still the most popular practical/defense competition gun, but the M&P has been taking a chunk out of their lead in the past couple years.

They just haven't really broken out in the "I plink on a range with my pistol twice a year" crowds. They aren't showpieces.

To ahpd1992 - That's very tempting and I appreciate the heads-up but I am continuing to downsize rather than expand. I'll let you know if I get the heebie-jeebies for it. Thanks.

Actually it was the CSA that fired the first shots in the civil war.

No legal authority to use the military. .

The president doesnt have the legal authority to defend the country against an attack?

Killed, raped etc civilians and torched houses of bystandards (read about Sherman's March to the Sea).

Atrocities were commited on both sides.

And I am 100% sure Lincoln gave no order to "kill, rape or torch the houses of civilians"

I am not saying it didnt happen, but he did not order any such behavior. The commanders in the field hold the responsibility for that.

They are not unpopular. They just are not glamorous and they don't have an internet fanboy base. Good solid pistols that folks really like and seem to last forever.

Obviously not for some. There's always some "academic" attempting to parse words, or apply modern standards, to ancient actions. Some of them are trying to Make Bill Ruger, and, by default, his company, into icons of evil. While, at the same time, ignoring S&W, SAAMI, and the NSSF for their participation in the same events.

The fact that Ruger doesn't produce pistols in 10mm, or .357 Sig is also being used to find fault. S&W, CZ, Wilson, Baer, Brown, STI, and many others don't market a 10mm, either. Also, many of the high-end shops don't offer .357 Sig, either. Shouldn't that be mentioned in posts involving them, as well?

While the P-Series isn't as svelte as some, Glock still runs neck and neck with High Point for the title "ugliest gun".

there is so much wrong with your post but as we are way off the OP I will just say this

And I am 100% sure Lincoln gave no order to "kill, rape or torch the houses of civilians"

you need to read history. Sherman received permission

Landric:

Yep..:D

And the Good Lord knows America has enough enemies now without some of us still harping on this dead horse..

Jesse

P.S. Betcha' if those who actually fought in the Civil War, on either side, had a vote they'd say it's time to let this go.

I'd certainly hope my G-Grandfathers, both Durrence and Tootle would anyway.

After the conflict was over, Robert E. Lee, who those of us who live in the South consider as a magnificent General, and a fine gentleman said it was time to let the recent past conflict go, and become one Nation..

Sounds good to me.

Hey Im not finding fault w/ Ruger for not offering a 10mm or 357 Sig, I just want them to. I am a big fan of Ruger's I think they are exactly as otheres have described, built to shoot less than to look at.

I think Ruger should be allowed to steal Sig's line of "to hell and back reliability".

Oh and all the recall posters, would you gimme a break, at least Ruger manned up and issued the recall. I can tell you many other manufactureres would wait for legal action before admitting to a problem

I hate double action auto trigger pulls. I ESPECIALLY hate Ruger double action auto trigger pulls.

Agreed. I wouldn't go as far as saying I 'hate" DA pulls (Sig is not too bad as far as DA goes), but I certainly prefer SA and that's what I carry.

That's why I was hoping the "Ruger New Year Announcement" would be a 1911 ;-)

My P-345 has been perfect. I wish the safety was off the slide, but it has never failed.
It's big, heavy, and reliable. I also have a big, reliable, heavy CZ, and I wouldn't trade either.
I don't carry either. I like small, light, and reliable for carry.

All this Ruger talk whetted my apetite I just went to my LGS to fondle the prime example of ugly workhorse unappreciated Ruger semi's...yes Im talkin about the P95.

Im buyin one, I think just to spite the critics. I handled this gun and it was all me, big bulky, not much to look at, but not one of the gun store snobs would dispute that it works, and works well...

Ruger auto's are the Rodney Dangerfield of guns

My first .40 (which I still have) was a P91DC. I just got it out after reading these comments, and to me the trigger is just fine...double action is smooth throughout. It's not like the trigger on the P250, but it's not a whole lot off. Maybe I got lucky...mine is reliable, accurate and the trigger is just fine. Is it pretty? No, it's not a classic...but it's a keeper.
