Why can't Taurus ship parts in a decent time frame?

This is a little OT but...

I called Taurus to order a couple of Mag springs. I plan to replace them in about six months but knowing how slow Taurus is....

They won't sell me the springs. I asked them what I could do and they said I would just need to buy new Magazines! :cuss:

Unfortunately Wolff doesn't have them either.

Thanks Seeker_two, but the mag springs I need are for a Taurus PT-111. I actually have a few new mag springs for my Beretta but they are quite a bit larger than those for the smaller PT-111.

Other than Wolff, not sure where else to look.

Hello Logistar,

I have gone through similar issues with trying to get replacement mag springs for my PT-111 to no avail. So instead, I tried looking for other solutions. It's true that Wolff does not have these springs (yet), so instead of buying replacement mags from Taurus, I got ProMag's instead. You can get these replacements for just $11.99 each!! I got two of them, and they have handled about 300 rounds with no missfeeds at all. (I thoroughly clean my guns after ever shoot, and my magz after 2 shooting sessions).

If you're interested, go to:

Hope this helps,
Tony

I asked them what I could do and they said I would just need to buy new Magazines!

Well...look on the bright side: At least you're not guy on 1911forum who had trouble with Wilson mags in his Kimber. When he called Wilson, the service rep suggested he buy a CQB to go with his mags. :scrutiny:

Um...you're not that guy, are you? :uhoh:

Thanks Tony! I never thought of that. That also makes me wonder if the Promag springs would fit the Taurus mags. I have no experience with Promag. If they are as reliable, that would be fine. Sound like they are doing OK for you. I'll check it out right now!

Boing... hmmm, maybe that was me, nah, I am the guy who had to buy a Beretta to go with my Beretta Hi-cap mags! (I was really planning on buying the Beretta anyway... honest!) :scrutiny:

I READ THIS THREAD WITH GREAT INTEREST

My only Taurus is a PT22, and it's been flawless since I 'broke' it in.
No parts needs.

However, I'd heard rumors of poor service years ago (the parts kind) but chalked it up to modern "McDonald's Mentality".
I am patient.

But after reading this (and laughing) it sounds like Taurus is in the business of selling guns. Only.
The rest of it, to them, appears to be 'just details'.

That said, apparently they do a fair job with warranty service, because they'd be crushed with complaints if they were unable to process repairs in a timely fashsion. After all, that appears to be the major selling point -- "Great Warranty".

Handled a brand new 85 real recently; seemed 'tight-n-right'.

And since I've mentioned it before I'll tell the "EAA story":

My first, a small-frame x19, was wildly inaccurate. Yet, shooting a friend's TZ, I could hit hit hit.
So I called EAA and they said "That's nice".

Hmmm.
Bob Cogan did a super job fixing that; hard-fit Nowlin tube. Still awesome.
Stock bore slugged at .3596"; not conducive to optimum accuracy (read that 'broad side of world').
Then I (with a used 9 in between) got a 45 version, but it was completely totally unreliable, regardless of ammo choice (see signature).
Yet, it was SO accurate that I couldn't part with it.
So I called EAA and they said "That's nice".
I said "but but but" and they said "send it in if you want, whatever" (insert teenaged girl tone here) so I said "no" and put a 38 Super top end on it.

Someday I'll fix the 45 ACP portion of this gun.

Not too bad, but not great either.

Go over their heads...

... and write directly to the president of Taurus USA.

That's what I had to do to get a PT940 replaced that had cracked it's frame. Sent it in and same pistol was returned as "repaired/polished" in an area that was no where near the location of the frame crack, which happened to be detailed in a letter and marked with red indelible marker.

The booklet that comes with new Taurus pistols lists the parts breakdown for the PT111, with the magazine showing seperate numbers(unfortunately, not factory part #'s) for the individual components, as well as for the complete mag assembly. If that doesn't do it, email/snail-mail the president of Forjas Taurus S.A in Bazil. In this instance Churchill had it right, don't get ulcers, give'em!

Weshoot2,

Ah, so well I know the EAA saga, as I have experienced it too! Nice design, great potential, LOUSY state-side CS. What a shame....

IN THEIR DEFENSE

You would need to wave ungodly amounts of money under me nose to pry away any of my Witnesses.
Especially the small-frames; I'd need four figures. Big figures.

Yes, I know the feeling...

.... as I still have my Tan Compact Witness with the Wonder finish in 10mm(is there any other caliber for the large frame compact!). It fits soooo well, that I just can't discard it because of the "not-so-friendly" CS that EAA provided.

Eventually I will pick up a full size large frame in 10mm, but I"ll know better than to ever think that EAA will be of much(read, if any) help should such be required. Yes, some day, after the other choices on the "wants" list are exhausted.

It's not the pistol, it's the type of "customer service" that falls somewhere short of adequate(and at times quite far short).

PATIENCE OF GRANITE

At this point in life, if I'm not happy with the service, I'll take it elsewhere and just pay more.

Specifically with a gun; off to a 'smith. Forget "factory service".

Except Ruger, of course.

Interesting parallel...

Weshoot2,

That's pretty much the conclusion I've come to myself. Ruger has NEVER left me less that satisfied. Best was when A MkII was sent in for FTF/FTE problems and was sent back with a new barrel and recoil spring installed... at no charge of any type. This was done some eight years after the purchase. No questions asked. I just wish they made a 10mm on the P-series frame.

A follow-up posting about my just returned Walther P22 will be posted shortly, as an update to an earlier post. Function, finish and CS service commentary included.

Shoot safe, shoot well!

Update on my CYA .38spl repair

Taurus received it 12-Feb-03 and emailed confo of receipt. No estimated completion date. Just confo of receipt.

10-Mar-03 I was emailed notified it was repaired and would be FEDEX'd to me overnight. They provided me the tracking number and tracking URL.

11-Mar 03 I received it as promised.

27 days to get a warranty repair. I can't complain about the warranty or their communication. I only complain about the time it took.

By comparison, a warranty repair on my Kimber took 4 days elapse from when they received it to when I had it back in my hands.

I'll give 'em a C+.
