Why did Springfield Armory hi-jack the Springfield name?

If IMBEL did all that except for cutting a frame rail groove, I would say they did 95% or more of the actual work on the frame.
Actually, I remember the frames from Imbel coming in, missing a lot more than frame rail cuts and serial numbers. Springfield did a lot of machining but it was minor, easily done work. Drilling holes for the ejector and ejector pin, drilling the disconnector hole, stuff like that. I think they also broached the trigger slot. I didn't spend a lot of time In town. I started up in the Blue shop, which was out at "The Farm" as it was known. It consisted of a Blue shop building and a machine shop which did the above mentioned work. The Springfield Custom Shop was also there, and that is where I met Les. Bob Reece (The founder and father) had an office there and Dave Reece's House was next door to all of this. Dennis and Tom spent most of their time in town.

It was the wild west. There was an unofficial range out the back door of the shop and often we were treated to the music of Bob or Dave blasting away with some class III toy. I'll never forget the MG-42. Dave had a nice one.

One day Bob asked if anyone wanted to work Saturday and help test fire some 50 Class III BM-59 s. :what: Several if them were the Nigerian models. Duhhhhh.....

Tom ordered a stripper for Les' birthday . I'll not elaborate further.....but you get the Idea. The place was party disguised as a job. I felt bad when I peeled off with Les in 92, but the Armory was in financial trouble and I feared a layoff.

Once upon a time in a galaxy far far away.....
