Why didn't anyone tell me Black rifle disease was so darn expensive?

Hey and Del-Ton has great customer serivce too. I ordered my rifle, got it in around a week or so (they assembled the upper), and had great service. Spoke to a couple reps on the phone, very friendly and helpful - they even offered to take my gun back in and check it out when it was short-stroking, but it turned out to be the ammo (Wolf MC which was underpowered, got great service from Wolf from that too - full, CURRENT PRICE refund for all ammo not fired out of 1k rounds and a pre-paid label too!). Anyway, great company to do business with, good service, good prices. I'd recommend them 100%.

I have to disagree with the fact that 223 is better. I don't want to get into a big flame war or anything about it. It is really only for a few simple reasons as well. First is that it is a bigger round [not to be over dramatic] but it will do more damage. It may not go as fast as long, but it's strong. with some work you can make it fairly accurate. If you want accuracy by a military bolt rifle. Also, why do you think warlords around the world stockpile 7.62X39 in bunkers larger than the Goodyear blimp[ dunno where the blimp came from o.o].

Because export controls on small arms are much looser in Russia and China than they are in Europe or the United States and 7.62x39 is what is available cheap.

Honestly, I have always thought that "The Goat Sucker" is the most rediculous monster name ever, and it's even funnier sounding in Spanish so when I started playing Minesweeper semi-competitively (not really, but I like to think so!) I signed it on every computer I could get my hands on at my university when I set the high score Kinda like "Kilroy was here"... who knows, but it stuck so I decided I'd keep signing it once I joined THR

And for the lower, buying a Cavalry Arms is definitely a great idea! But if you want to save a few bucks and gain a good deal of insight, building an AR lower is so easy, you really can't go wrong... honestly I had only shot an AR 1 time for about 10 rounds before I built my own, so believe me, it's not hard

you guys ALMOST have me settled on building my own

What tools do you need to build the lower reciver?

I have already picked the 16" Mid-Length Rifle Kit from Del-ton, just have yet to decide on a stripped lower, or one of the complete lowers minus the Buttstock.

Any good picks for Lower receivers? ;)

The best AR-15-related investment is undoubtedly using three or four rounds to obliterate one's cameras. Gone is the facility, and next, the desire to spend hundreds of dollars on accessories in order to have a rifle which will receive praise on various internet gun forums.

This might be the best advice I've heard yet. :D

I do like looking at other people's pretty pictures though.

With some swap meet deals, I built mine for $500.

DPMS Lower - 995 Trade
Del-Ton Upper - $500
Mags, ammo and sling - Swapped some 7.62x39 ammo and made $40 in the process

That said, it's your rifle and your design. If you're happy and it fits you, screw everyone else and enjoy.

I have been playing with my AK for awhile now and love it...also, just got a BushMaster 20" A3 which should also be a lot of fun!!!
I say having both is best!!!

I can just see you jumping over logs with all that stuff on there. Get a good scope and light.

those are the cheapest AR that i have found and they are instock

Century AR-15

but if you want to build your own, here's ALL you need to get a basic AR15

1. Lower Reciever $100.00 ( FFL Required)
http://www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/Double_Star_Corp_Star-15_AR15_.223_Lower_Receiver.html

2. Del-ton Rifle kit with A2 upper (so you dont need an extra rear sight)

3. Once you have the lower and the rifle kit, just watch this video and play it as you go.

and this is a guide that help you identify the parts for the lower

Just the butt stock wrench really... unless you plan to assemble an upper from hand picked parts... which can be a bit tedious and would likely require the skills of a 'smith...

Well, if you're looking at the rifle kits I'm looking at from Del-Ton, you will only need the STRIPPED lower, as the LPK and but stock come with the rifle kit...

Any good picks for Lower receivers?

Pick the logo you like best... they're all pretty much the same (there are a couple to avoid - the brands slip my mind at the moment) AIM has the Superiors for like $80 + s/h to your FFL...

The AR will likely be more accurate that most AK's. Keep the AR and save your pennies.

Built this one on the cheap. parts bought at rock bottom prices from friends who where upgrading theirs. Bought a complete Fulton Armory lower with RRA 2 stage trigger and VLTOR stock from a friend who aborted his build for $225 shipped , sold the VLTOR , replaced with an A2 with spacer ( got long arms :) )
All told I figure about $300 ( cant remember exactly ).
Good to be in the right place at the right time.

It is not a MOA gun but decent enuff for plinking.

Sometimes if you are lucky you can score as others tire of black rifle disease or are upgrading their gear.
Bought this from a bud for $1400 shipped with blackhawk discreet carry case and a few mags ( Strider knives not included in price but everything on the rifle was ).

Dscf1604.jpg

some features.
M4A3 Custom upper built by Carolina tactical supply.
Sabre defense fluted 1:7 barrel .223 match chamber
Daniel Defense 12.0 rail
RRA National Match lower with NM trigger
YHM Bipod mount and Harris bipod.

The only thing I changed is the stock , had no need for an adjustable stock since fully extended it was still too short , replaced it with an A2 stock with 1" extension.

Shoots extremely accurate. Someday I may add a light and some BUIS , thats about it. All my $$$ goes to ammo now.

Shevrock:
They suspect that Obama and the US Congress will begin to make not only higher-capacity magazibnes illegal, but almost any semi-auto rifle and even foreign military surplus ammo. There are reports that even McCain made unnecessary compromises. A guy in the Louisiana legislature even wanted to make M-1 carbines illegal, and that is just one on his list.

Somebody on page one suggested buying 2 SKS then call him in the morning.
Yes.

Or if you want to shoot even more often at the risk of not being fashionable,
one SKS + lots more ammo= shooting cheaper/more often.
For me, anything without iron sights would be cheating and mean much less ammo. I chose reliablity and more ammo.
Have fun.

I guess I am one of the odd balls , but the SKS is just not impressive to me , dont like the looks , dont like the way it handles.

What am I missing about the SKS ???
