I cant carry due to my stupid state.
However if I could I would carry simply because I feel it is the prudent thing to do. It is also my right and I feel that I should exercise it. Why must I give up my own sense of security so someone who does not know me can feel safer is what I ask myself? Are my rights any less valuable than those of an anti-gunners "right to safety"?
As of late I am so frustrated and really want to move far far away from Illinois.
But I guess the simplest aswer would be because I can and it is my right.

There are ugly people in this world.
I carry because there are people in this world who would harm my wife, son or myself for any reason or no reason at all. As a husband and father, I have a responsibility to ensure that never happens if I can prevent it. A handgun allows me more available force should I need to protect them.

God Bless Cops, but they can't "protect" us most of the time. Cops have a hard job and most do it pretty well, but they respond to situations already in progress as opposed to stopping situations that just started. Unless your issue goes down and the cop happens to be standing right there, they aren't going to be able to protect you, and thats why I carry.

Well I've used all types of answers BUT the best expression I got was the other day when I was asked why I carried. I told hiim "becasue I can't carry a cop", turned a awkward question into a chance to let someone know we AIN'T nuts.

Why do I carry? For the same reason I have a spare tire in my vehicle. Problems, at least in my area, are pretty rare, but they do happen. So it's better to have a tool and not need it, than need it and not have it. I'm one who tries to be prepared for about anything.
I keep cold weather gear and drinking water in my vehicle too, even though this is a warm desert climate. About 10 years back me and my girlfriend were 4 wheeling late at night and the steering linkage on my truck broke, leaving us a 6 hour hike out. It was cold that night and the warm clothes came in handy, as did the water, flashlights and spare batteries.
You never know how bad you'll need something until you need it and don't have it. When it comes to self protection, not having it could mean the difference between life and death.

I personally don't have a concealed carry permit, however I do have a question about them. I'm moving to Kansas shortly, which has great laws concerning firearms , however you still need to get a permit to carry concealed. What are people putting in their application to get approved? Anybody who lives in Kansas or similar care to comment. I'd like to apply for one when I move, and honestly I'll probably carry one in some situations regardless.

Read the newspaper! It's getting meaner out there by the day. I don't carry every day or everywhere I go but am comforted by the fact that I can when going into unfamiliar territory. The easy answer as to why is simple...to protect my family and myself from harm.
