Anyone know why CZ doesn't make a DA/SA P-01 w/ a manual safety? My SP-01 is the best pistol I have every owned, I love everything about it, I would love to have a compact SP-01 (namely a P-01) w/ a manual safety so that both my range and my CCW pistols are exactly the same in terms of feel and control. The only major difference between the two would be the size and weight between alloy and steel. CZ makes all of their other pistol models with a manual safety, why not offer the P-01 with one?

Anyone else feel the same about a manual safety P-01 for Cocked and locked carry?

They do have the new CZ-75 Compact in 40 with a rail, looks identical to the P-01. I guess that rail "disease" will soon infect the Compact in 9mm(both manual safetied)...:D

the CZ75 Compact .40 has a steel frame versus the P01s alloy frame, which i suspect might have something to do with the lack of manual safeties.

I will take delivery of a P-01 next week and I prefer the de-cocker to the manual safety. Probably because I learned to shoot large-caliber semi-autos on models that didn't have manual safeties.

My guess is that CZ only offers the de-cocker because that's what NATO and the Czech National Police wanted in a service pistol and CZ likes to be able to sell "the exact same gun!" used by those organizations.

CZ is a bit strange in that regard. Many have wondered why there was never a .40 S&W variant of the P-01. P-01 frames are forged alloy, the PCR is cast alloy and their steel framed guns used cast steel for the frames. Machining costs is higher for the P-01, but it's also one of the most popular pistols in the line. One of the very best pistols in its class. I've done some comparisons between it and the SIG/Sauer P-228 and the P-01 holds its own very nicely with a slight accuracy edge. Before the SP-01 came out there was a similar pistol to it that had a forged alloy frame and was sold in other parts of the world. I have been a CZ fan for many years, but I can tell you, if you try to figure out CZ marketing in the US, especially with the competition they have, best have a bottle of Advil handy! The 75 Compact in .40 is an excellent pistol, but heavy for its size at about the same weight as a Smith 4006. A lot of attention is paid to sport shooting, with little attempt to penetrate the LE market and seemingly unaware that civilian handgun sales follow the police market. The P-01 is a world class pistol with impressive testing to obtain an exclusive NATO spec that no one else has met, last time I heard, but only the Czechs are using it!

For some reason, most of CZ's "compact" guns with decockers are limited to 9mm and have alloy frames. (The single exception is the CZ-40B, which while still "compact," is larger, and comes only in .40.)

I know CZ has dealt with the question again and again -- and they continue to say they have no plans to build such a model.

I have a 75B Compact (9mm), which I like, but its heavy. I'd prefer the same gun with an alloy frame.

I love my PCR and its one of my main carry pieces. I would prefer it to have the safety like my 75B. I have thought about getting a 75B Compact, but like you, prefer the weight savings. I guess the decocker is a small price to pay to have a nice, lightweight, compact CZ. At least the decocker is in the right place unlike my Sig P228.

Well, I guess I'll have to just get a RAMI as a CCW piece with its manual safety and add a P-01 to the collection later down the line as a range/ccw pistol. I just wish that I could get a P-01 w/ a manual safety so that all my range practice could carry over into defense practice at the same time because both my range and CCW pistols are pretty much identical.

I'm fine with a decocker, but it doesn't allow cocked and locked carry or a SA first shot when carried. I'm perfectly comfortable lowering the hammer on a CZ-75 variant with a manual safety and it then gives me DA or a SA w/ cocked and locked which a decocker does not offer.

P-01

I think I responded to this on another forum, but give Mike Eagleshield at CZUSA a call. He said he could change a decocker to manual safety for @$300 including parts. It's worth a try. -Ian
