hello,
i have been seeing alot of people saying they were at their local dealer and made a purchase, then they say i handed them a signed copy of my 03 ffl and walked out, so why would you want to give a dealer, or dealer at gun show a signed copy of your 03 ffl? would it not be better to buy them like a non 03 ffl holder from a dealer, that way you do not have to log it, because you do not not log all the guns you buy, just the guns you buy using your 03 ffl
thanks,
jon

By using the 03-FFL, you bypass having to do the 4473 form, background check and any waiting periods. It's easier, faster and cheaper to just jot it down in the bound book.

A C&R must log ALL C&R firearms that come into his/her possession while they hold a valid C&R license, regardless of how its acquired. Only "real" FFLs have the FFL-handed-over/logged inventory and the seperate 4473'ed personal collection, a C&R has only the logged personal collection (of C&R firearms).

So, might as well hand over the C&R and do it the easy way (but sometimes a dealer wont accept a C&R and you end up doing the 4473 anyway).

so you are telling me that no matter where and how i buy a firearm that is not c&r i have to log it? to say that i go to my local flea market and buy a ak-47 this weekend i have to log it in my logbook even though it is not a c&r firearm? and what about the guns i buy that are not c&r, lets say like a 870 i buy from wal-mart, what if i sell it or all my guns that is not c&r will they get me for trying to do buisness with a 03 ffl?
thanks,
jon

No, the logging only applies to C&R firearms acquired by a C&R licensee. If its not C&R, or you are not a C&R liscensee, you do not have to log it. Being "in the business" is a totally seperate issue.

I'm a little confused after reading this conversation. HK, are you saying that you can walk into your local 01 FFL's shop, pick out a gun you like, regardless of whether it is C&R eligible or not, and just give them a copy of your 03 FFL and then cash and carry out? No waiting BS, filling out 4473, etc? I thought my license was only good for C&R eligible stuff. Or is it just good for that stuff interstate?

No. But you can do so if the gun is C&R. I get C&Rs at local gun shows and using the FFL is easier/faster than doing the normal paperwork.
