Why hasn't anyone made a larger magazine for a Mosin Nagant?

Why hasn't anyone made an extension for a Mosin Nagant and sold it if one has been made? It doesn't seem like it would be very hard to do. Has anyone ever heard of one or tried it?

The price of a Mosin doesn't reflect a good return investment into many high price items for them.

That's my guess,

Stripper clips make loading a Mosin Nagant pretty fast. I don't think I would even want to hassle with an extended mag.

Check the Trader section of www.gunboards.com. Every now and then someone will posts some old-school ten-round magazines. They vary from five-round extenders to an old detachable system that requires the removal of the fixed magazine.

You kids nowadays and your "gotta have hi-cap magazines!" attitudes. Guns that hold less than 15 rounds aren't useless, contrary to popular modern opinions.

Anything much larger than 5 rounds will add even more weight to an already very heavy rifle AND make prone shooting more difficult. Remember that Soldiers frequently fire from the prone to stay alive.

You can just shoot gangsta style and hold it sideways...

If you need 10-round capacity, buy two Mosins.

(Call it a "Brighton Beach Reload"--New Yorkers will get it. ;))

Aren't they ugly enough as they are? Until Cosmoline posted the picture, I didn't think that they could get any uglier. Why in the world would anyone want a larger magazine capacity for that rifle?

In that particular case, the idea was to shoot more Russians between reloads. It might be fun to have one just for kicks. I once saw a 20 round single stack mag for the Walther PP that was hilarious.

A high capacity magazine made to fit the Mosin Nagant would probably wind up costing half the price of the gun. Look at what magazines cost and then think about the extra R&D that would need to go into it for a very small market.

Maybe there was/is a problem with the rim, and a long single stack mag. SVTs and PSLs got to 10 (I have seen a few 20s, but very rare, and they could have been good homebrews), but they are staggered. With the taper of the x54R round, a 20 round single stack mag would have to look almost like a Chauchat magazine. (Also just 20 round capacity.) On that note alone, I'd have to see the rifle Cosmoline posted, in action, to believe it was a workable model.
