Mosin Nagant Recoil?

Standing they're not bad at all. Prone they definately shine.... if recoil is a problem I suggest getting a rubber recoil pad, someone makes one specifically for the MN.

For the record, I took my 120lb girlfriend out to the range with my MN and taught her how to hold and fire properly. She had never shot a gun before and it didn't give her any trouble at all, just hold it right and enjoy the punch.

The recoil of my former Russian MN 44s was a bit less than that of my Yugo Mauser 48A with the steel butt plate.

The Yugo is for sale, FTF (in person) only, Memphis area.

Look, to finish this, it makes no difference how you hold it or how beefy your build is, short mosin rifles have a bad recoil. And the long ones mostly don't. It is a matter of common sense. Hold on to your 24/47 mausers; they are great examples of the type and will only increase in value/availability.

Aw you Soft Americans, you shoot a fine Moskova Weapon like you drink Vodka, Like a little girl! You must hold it to your shoulder and hang on like Russian Bear. And wear glasses for the muzzle Blast! :D

Maybe I am just a weak girly man but I just couldn't stand my M44 and sold it. It was unpleasant for me to shoot and as another said, it was the only one to really bruise my shoulder after firing. I stared on a .22, then an M48 8mm, then a .30-30, then the M44. The M48 was softer for me and I can shoot that thing until it starts to get too hot, longest outing was about 90 rounds and no bruising. M44 on the other hand, 30 rounds and I was done.

Currently I can shoot a 12ga all afternoon, might not hit anything, but it doesn't seem to try and remove my shoulder either. Again maybe I am just a pansy.

I ditched my M44, and I don't miss it. Recoil and mediocre accuracy made it a less than pleasant range companion. Cheap ammo was great, but ... .22 ammo is cheaper, and more fun. The guy who bought it from me likes it, so it's all good.

Love the K31 I got with the money I got for the M44. Match grade accuracy with surplus ball. Still plenty of recoil, but the gun fits me better, and it's a much nicer rifle. Only about 80 bucks when I got it, too! :D

My 25 $ prebubbarized Tula 1937 MN, I put a slip on pad, scout scope setup and made riser cheek piece. It doesn't kick hard for the lightweight it is, but with a .314” bore, I only shoot GC cast boolits in it and is quite accurate. It is my grab and go truck gun and sees hard service.
