Why I can not finish building AR #3

Natural disasters, rioters setting fires; these are times which force you to leave the protection of familiar surroundings, and it would be darn handy to lay an AR pistol across your lap in a car vs. wielding even a 16” carbine.
Too each their own, but I would rather have a 19 round XDm etc over an AR pistol that is going to make your ears bleed.

To the ARA Group,

I have two AR's that are completely built...

Well except for #1 that I want to put a different flashhider on mainly for looks. (Then again I may leave it as is depending on my mood).

The ALG ACT trigger arrived and is installed on #1. As GunnyUSMC said I love it. It is a very nice FCG. I hope to get to the range Friday to run it through it's paces.

So both 1 & 2 are good-to-go.

I have builds 3 and 4 in progress with The Purple People Eater (4) designated as a gift to Daughter #1. (This is the kid that claimed all of my guns last fall when she was visiting. Smart kid with good tastes in guns.) My long term goal is to build 6 AR's as there are 6 adults in my family and with the exception of Daughter #1 let them each pick the AR they like. I may have to do some parts swapping or even build another one to please everyone. :what:

And since I believe 1 is none, 2 is 1 and 3 is 2 that means I need two more AR's (7 & 8) so I have my personal use ones covered.

And don't even start talking about the Grandkids. Thank goodness they are still to young to start shooting.

p.s. I took advantage of a sale this weekend and ordered some more parts for #3. I am danging the torpedoes and going full speed to get #3 done...

soon.

Good plan except you didn’t include an extra or two. You never know when the end of the world will happen or worse you have a few buddies who want to learn how to shoot.

Well that’s what the moonroof is for! ;)

M&P 40 would be the take along pistol but I’d feel fine with a 40-60 round magazine and a suppressor with triple the muzzle energy. Anything fired in an enclosed space is gonna hurt without ears or a can though.

Hmmm. Good point. I did discuss in a previous post about building AR's 7 & 8 but if I start arming friends that will increase the number. And since I believe "2 is 1" this thing has skyrocketed way past my pay grade. Heck it will take 12 guns just to arm immediate family. Then add in the in-laws...naaah, on second thought I let them survive on their own...

Actually the biggest need will be ammunition. It will have to be a "bring your own bullets" end of the world party.

Yea it gets out of hand fast
My general rule is unless it’s someone I want to buy the ammo for, I let them know they have to bring a box, or pay for it. I’ll provide the guns, but I can’t afford the ammo. The response has always been positive.

As for ARs my list has got quite long due to the horrible pusher know as Gunny. And it may be getting longer.

Currently I’m close to you in that I have two complete ARs and a box of stripped lowers. The box of lowers were purchased on a Flash sale and suppose to be kept for whatever people do who keep stripped lowers.

The thing is my list now includes ARs

.22LR practice rifle
300 Blackout
6.5 Grendel

I also want to do an 80% lower to know how to do one

And I started to like the cool engraving and colors some vendors have so the list is getting big.

TrueType an addiction.

It’s an AR, I treat them the same as the snap together models I went through as a kid. Pop them together, stick stuff on them and move on to the next one.

You know what happens every time I buy a stripped upper? There's a sale on lower parts kits somewhere.

I think at the moment my number of lowers and uppers is equal, but I have an extra buttstock. So...

I'd always heard how loud that AR pistols were and how I was going to have to get a flash can/Noveske Pig of some type and then I got one and it's honestly not that bad.

Yeah I’m waiting for Gunny to give us further instructions while gathering more, like what Oprah does for women who’ve been collecting onsie socks.

Are there any problems or downsides to using a .625 gas block lightweight 16" carbine barrel?
The M16 and M16A1 used .625 gas blocks.
There are a lot of lightweight barrels with .750 gas blocks, but a true pencil barrel has a .625 gas block.
I have a pencil barrel with a .625 gas block that is waiting for me to decide on how I’m going to build it.
I also have six stripped lowers and six are more stripped uppers, that’s not counting the upper and lower for the 458 Socom build.
I’ve got the urge to buy more parts but, I should inventory the parts on hand before I order anything.

Since I will not be attaching a bayonet to it (although sticking wild hogs could be a interesting adventure) and will not be doing long strings of fire I don't feel I will be handicapped much. Heat from the barrel using a Mission First Tactical handguard will be educational.

A Internet search has failed to turn up any functioning or design problems. I am slowly adding different AR's made for different types of shooting.
