The only problem I have seen anyone have with using the lighter spring kits is when shooting European surplus ammo or some of the steel case stuff. I put one of the spring sets in my friend's rifle and he has fired MEN, Tulamo steel and brass, LC M855 , Federal, Winchester and a few others without any trouble. What is your opinion of the JP 3.5T spring set? Will it fire hard primers?
Or is the 4.0 Tactical Spring Kit that much better?
I mainly shoot my reloads using CCI Small Rifle Magnum primers. 98% of the ammunition I shoot are my own reloads. I have military grade M193 and M855 along with some commercial stuff like Federal and PMC stored in ammo cans mainly intended for use if reloading components and ammo supplies dry up. (In fact I am currently shooting up my Clinton era stash from 25 years ago.) My military ammo stash is Federal Lake City, PMC and IMI.
I'll PM you my address so that you can send it. You can use it in the Purple People Eater.GunnyUSMC,
As usual you are truly generous.
This QMS trigger has been a big disappointment. Along with being gritty the trigger also failed to reset on me once. It definitely needs a little TLC.
The ACT should be showing up this week. I'll be in touch.
Let me get this straight, BSA. You're putting #3 on hold to build #4 for #1?
Using Lego math it appears your short one flash hider.I forgot to mention that the flashhider on #1 is going to be put on #3 so that the flashhider that is currently in Parts Drawer A can be put on #1.
And the rear sight on #2 is going on #3 so that I can put a new sight on #2.
Another part arrived today that is intended for #3 so it may end on #4 instead.
Playing with legos sure is fun.
Just build as many complete ARs as you have parts for, then go shoot them as much as you can afford. Don't worry about how they're configured now, because they will evolve as you gain experience. You can always swap the parts around later. That's what I do. Shoot, swap parts around, then shoot some more until everything settles into a configuration I like.
Look at it mathematically. For example, Assume you have
3 choices for color,
4 choices for trigger,
3 choices for hand guard
5 choices for rear sight
5 choices for barrel length
2 choices for butt stock
Then, you have 3x4x3x5x5x2 = 1800 DIFFERENT combinations.
From this, I conclude that you cannot finish AR#3 because you are a victim of paralysis by analysis (a disease that has infected many others).
I suggest that you just pick one and put it together without worrying too much. If you don't like, you have plenty of others to try.
SEEEEEEEEI have given build #4 a name. I call it my Purple People Eater. You are showing your age if you remember the One Eyed One Horned Flying Purple People Eater song.
It is intended to be a gift to Daughter #1 as she likes AR's and her favorite color is purple. Thanks very much to GunnyUSMC for the idea.
I’d love a red white and blue USA themed one!
Don't go to Aero Precision! Do not look at their "Soaring Freedom" or "The Pledge of Allegiance" builder sets. Resist the urge to build another AR. (Even before I get the scope mounted on my new Valkyrie.) Just don't.
If you do you will be sad they are all sold out.
how about something like this for your pistol build. It's only $165Remember this topic.
Well since the last post I acquired all of the parts to finish building my AR #3. After getting the parts I read a post by our chief enabler, GunnyUSMC, about painting the barrel with Aluma-Hyde II from Brownells. I liked the idea so much I ordered the paint. However, the weather got me behind on more important things that needed done so the project has been on hold until this past weekend. I got barrel out and was getting ready to prep it for painting when I decided to compare it to my other carbine barrels as the front sight seems a bit a close to the end of the barrel...
(You know where this is going don't you?)
Yep it is a mid-length gas system barrel.
The company I ordered the barrel from grabbed the wrong barrel off of the shelf and since I was not ready to install it I never looked closely at it after it arrived. The good news is that I want to put a mid-length barrel on the Purple People Eater so the barrel is a keeper.
THE GODS MUST BE CRAZY!
Or telling me something.
I have been toying off and on with the idea of building a pistol. All I will need to do is chose the length of the barrel and handguard.
Or maybe 3 is a unlucky number for me. Ignore #3 altogether and move onto finishing #4. It is ready to be Purple Ceracoated.
I am feeling a little like Charlie Brown right now.
I’m ridding myself of the pistol today. Trading it off. Pistol is fun but will never be more than a toy.
