Why I carry in my own house...

I am not saying I am unprepared Straping a gun to my side is just a bit un-doable for me. I live in an old house with small halls and door ways. To make more room I have removed the doors from the kitchen to the dining room ect ect this house had doors seperating everything. I removed most of them and still manage to bump my shoulders and hips on a bunch of stuff. I have no desire to once a month go around and repaint everything I just scuffed with my gun. Thats the biggest reason. I live in a nice neighborhood where the worst crime is the guy that got caught fishing with out a licens. I dont have any problem with folks carying guns in their homes. I do like to point out the extremes though. Like the guy that said he has a stainless revolver in the shower just because "you never know".

Oh and my signature is actually some one elses quote I just stole it for a signature.

We have 8 freakin' dogs of which 5 will go totally ballistic for nothing at all. Also live at the end of a 1/4 mile dirt road.

Do not carry at home and don't even have one near to hand.

FULLY understand and support those that do!!!

I'm just picking on you a little Eric, no ill will intended. I live in an old house too, about 200 years old, and I am wider than the people who built it, not to mention much much taller. I have to duck to get through the exterior doorways unless I want to smash my head on either wood or stone! The decor is chipped paint already!

I carry because I run a business on the property in a different building, people show up at all sorts of times, and it is just easier for me to have it there all the time. If I did not have kids I might even be like some of these guys who have so many guns lying around they don't have to carry.

To me, carrying from the time I dress until bedtime is just flat easier than having to remember where I put it. Given the hassle I regularly have to find my sunglasses and keys (and this is when I'm NOT stressed out by bad guys breaking in the house) I don't even want to think about what goo my brain would turn into if I had to remember where my gun was under stress.

I know where it is, all the time. Much simpler.

I'm not keen on leaving guns around the house simply because of the risk of burglary. My oldest son lost most of his collection a couple of years ago because they weren't in a safe and he wasn't home when the BG's came calling. I'd hate to lose all that lovely hardware, J.

Just because they are out to git-cha, doesn't mean your paranoid.

Um maybe what else goes along with that thinking or are they really out to get you?

I try to always be prepared. I look at it this way, Just because they haven't gotten to you yet, doesn't mean they are NOT out to get you.

carry at home

In Dallas, the police busted a home invasion ring that included some 70 houses! That is a big number to me and necessitates carrying at all times. You just never know who is lurking at your door.

soon MORE will be carrying in the house

I predict as the economy continues to slow and CRIME continues to rise this will become more of an issue. I try to have a thought out plan to get to a gun. I keep a few at a few different places.

We have one or more big kitties using our yard as a litter box. So I always carry outside. I never know when I might want/need to go outside so it's better to just wear it all the time.

We occasionally have the felonious "friends" of one of our ex-neighbors show up from time to time. So far they haven't called ahead to make an appointment

Two high profile home invasions in the Columbus area occurred in an upscale neighborhood. Thinking you are safe because you don't live in a bad neighborhood is wishful thinking. I carry at home except in the shower and in bed. I have two Shelties to alert me and I know from experience that they will be all over me at the first sign of danger.:(

My guns are in my back room down the hall. For those who want to make chase back there... I'll be ready. I think your odds of surviving something like that debends more on the awareness of ones's enviroment and caliber of readiness more than if you happen to be holding your gun all the time. Have a plan people, expect the unexpected and give it enough thought to prepair.
