That's true. You need to use 100% wool felt.

Yes, that sounds like the right stuff. It's a paper product, sort of a "spongy" cardboard.

After i punched the wads out of the egg carton, i put them on waxed paper and put vegetable oil on them and then put the wads between two sheets of paper towel with a weight on top to soak out the excess oil. They look real nice now.

it is a LOT easier if you rig up a way to chuck your "punch" into an electric drill (or even better a drill press) and CUT the wads out instead of trying to PUNCH them out.
