I am so sick of feeling like I am on the defensive when ever a criminal used a gun in a crime. The media and other folks I know make me feel like I have to defend the availibilty of firearms to law abiding citizens, and the NRA whenever a shooting like his happens.

When a drunk driver killed a family of Six here last year, did the media mention that the Drunk driver had just consumed Chivas Regal, or Popov? Was it questioned why Cheap Vodka was sold to this person, since the only purpose of cheap vodka is to get alcoholics drunk so they can go out and kill children?

Alcohol serves absolutely no constructive purpose what-so-ever and is a scourge on our society. Alcoholism kills hundreds of thousands of people every year in the USA, destroys people and families, and serves no sporting purpose what so ever:rolleyes:

Do they mention that the killer was driving a evil deadly high capacity assault SUV that is capable of crushing small family cars?:barf:

Why isn't the manufacturer of cars and alcohol blammed by brand and name for very drunk driving death and injury, why isn't it national news everyday??

I didn't see president of the national council on distilled spirits, being questioned on TV as to why anyone needs half gallon bottles of Popov, or why Ford and GM dealers don't conduct background checks before cars are sold to drunks.

Yesterday 75 people died at the hands of Drunk drivers and it didn't fill the evening news or prompt a special 2 hour show.

I am tired of feeling like I have done something wrong by owning firearms and being an NRA member.

You are powerless as an individual to change the mainstream media or instantly control social norms.

Instead, I suggest you do something effective within your own realm of control. Take a family member shooting, or encourage a curious friend to go ahead with a gun purchase. Give a gift subscription to NRA or GOA to a coworker who shoots.

You will do more for gun owners than an entire day's worth of forum posts on the Internet.

The following was commentary in my local paper today by someone blaming the NRA and subsequent members... : One of two things should be done. First, issue to everyone over the age of 7 no fewer than five handguns that can be redeemed for an automatic at age 12, or publish a neighborhood list of all National Rifle Association members, similar to the lists of sex offenders who permeate our towns. Enough is enough. This is the Mentality of certain people. Equating gun ownership with being a sex offender.
