Why no AR lowers at the gun show?

"What I did notice a lack of was 5.56/.223."

When I bought ammo early Saturday morning Georgia Arms had thousands of rounds of 55 gr. FMJ Canned Heat for $300 per thou including 2 'free' ammo cans. A guy in the back across from the door had a little S&B for $320 per thou. Other than that it was slim pickings unless you wanted Russian ammo. I almost said cheap Russian, but nothing's cheap anymore.

Georgia Arms was down to 3 cans when I picked up my ammo and left around noon.

After looking at a few tables of ARs Saturday, it doesn't look like the parts are the only thing fetching top dollar. I've been reading about all these waiting times for this and that, so when I'm asked why I bought an RRA Entry Tactical for my first AR the answer is easy. No wait and I liked it. The price was good - $800 - it had a chrome lined barrel and had only been fired 60 times, came with 2 30-rd. mags, and the guy lived 4 miles away. I thought about waiting on the next gun show, but I'm glad I didn't after the selections and prices I saw Saturday.

JohnBT - I showed up at 2:30 on Saturday and GA Arms was out. The two guys I ussually by russian ammo from were also both out.

Great deal on the RRA - congrats.

Thanks, it appears to be a well made rifle and I certainly don't mind not paying sales tax or transfer fees and shipping. I'll get over it not being a "Tier 1" gun, or Tier 1.5, or whatever rating system the guys in the know are using now. :D Lordy me, I actually registered at AR15.com. Do I have to sell all my revolvers now?

I might still pick up a Colt for $1200+, but then again I might not. When I asked the guys in the little shop what model it was they couldn't tell me. What's up with that? Go dig the box out of the back room or do I have to figure it out myself? I'll check on it again Friday when I'm over in the Valley. Never know when I'll need a back-up.

Sorry you missed out on the ammo. The only reason I went to the show early was to avoid the heat. And mowing the yead. It worked out well all the way around.

I think there may be a few states that don't allow selling just lowers because they want info on barrel length, etc. But aside from that, I expect that the people who make lowers can make more money by selling complete rifles than by just selling the lowers. After all, they are in business to make money for themselves, not to provide a means for others to make money selling uppers and other parts to hobbyists.

I saw this post by an RRA rep on AR15.com. John

"Whenever we get barrels in, of whatever type, we fill whatever orders that we can with them. We still try to go from oldest to newest within that build up...and rifles before upper halves before individual barrels.
In the particular case of mid-length chrome-lined bbls, we've had batches coming in every couple of weeks and are slowly catching up with demand.

Rest assured that your RRA is certainly a top tier gun!

That's ok JohnBT - since I missed out on the ammo (and the Eotech I was looking for... Tony's Custom Uppers sold his last one right before I got there) I decided that I could get a new pocket knife. Heck, it was easy to spend the money, it seemed cheap compared to what I was going to spend.

When I wanted a Rock River upper I was told that it would be at least 8 weeks, I guess I see why.

Have fun with the RRA - I have a Rock River (complete lower/match trigger) myself that I havent tried yet. I need to get over to Chickahominy soon.

Take care,

Joe

(good thing you mowed last weekend with all this rain this afternoon - my grass is goign to be 4 - 6 inches by this weekend now :) )
