Why RIFLES are the best.

Gosh, I guess everybody has been wasting their time making things that aren't rifles. This thread proves it.

I love to shoot.

I own one shotgun, and have only a slight desire to get another one.

I own several pistols ... um ... yeah, just leave it at several, that's probably best, and several rifles.

My first gun was a pistol. I shoot them most. I hunt most with the shotgun, but actually shoot it least. I shoot rifles the best. I wouldn't want to be without any of them.

My AR drops feral dogs much faster and from much further away than the Sig on my hip. That's why I like it more

I vacillate on this subject. My interests will ebb and flow from one platform to the next. Right now, I'm tickled to death with shotguns. I just came off a handgun kick though. Soon, I'm headed back to the rifle fascination, but it's all cyclical for me.

The only constant, is that I adore semi-automatics... across all the platforms. Not saying that I hate lever action, bolt action, double or single actions, but I just love it when the gun does all the work for me.

Another perspective:

Beginning from today we shall shift over to the partisan tactic. Three battle companies will move out tonight, with two tasks: reconnaissance and obtaining arms. Do you remember, short-range weapons are of no use to us. We use such weapons only rarely. What we need urgently: grenades, rifles, machine-guns and explosives.

I do love my revolvers, but even after tens of thousands of rounds downrange it's still tough to hit things with them. The long gun is just a better shooting platform.

The older I get, the more I like rifles. When I was younger, pistols were cooler to me, and I'll never get rid of some of the ones I have, but nowadays the rifle racks are where I head when I go shopping!

Having said that, if anyone wants to let go of their handguns to make room for more rifles, pm me and I'll be more than happy to take 'em off your hands!

Pistols and shotguns are for protecting yourself against the small-time criminals.

Rifles are for protecting yourself against the really bad criminals.

Every gun has its place, but rifles hold a special place in my heart because they are the primary tool for defending liberty, which I believe to be the prime rationale to own arms.

Yeah, I routinely use 3" Magnum slugs to ward off skunks, but no way I'd be comfortable using them against an attacker. I'd much rather have a .30-30 with 1/2 the energy and only 40% of the bullet diameter.

Or not.............

I guess I should have been more clear... by "small time criminals" I meant the kind that wear ski masks or dreadlocks.

By "really bad criminals" I meant the kind that wear uniforms and/or suits with flag lapel pins - you know, the kind who are responsible for all the worst crimes throughout history, and killed 262,000,000 people last century.

Too true.

Everything is a compromise. Rifles compromise portability and "no hands" carrying for range and they are easier to hit with. Handguns compromise range (not necessarily lethality) for portability but they are more challenging to shoot well. There is very little that cannot be accomplished with a handgun, within its effective range, including taking every head of game on earth but it takes a lot of effort and dedication to become proficient enough to do that. Many are not willing to do that and we still have many energy worshipping rifle shooters who don't believe it to be possible.

I like rifles better, but...

... I live in a more urban area, and it is a LOT easier for me to find a place to shoot handguns. I have to drive 40 minutes to get to a rifle range, and even then, I can only shoot at paper. Very limited fun. IL doesn't allow rifle hunting, so that isn't an option either.

That said, I have three 22LR rifles, (bought two, one inherited) a Remington 788 in 6mm, and a Marlin 1894 in 44 Mag. I love them for all the same reasons you do.

There's also something pretty fun about action pistol shooting though.

Yeah, you have to watch out for those folks of African descent. :uhoh::confused:

If I'm using a handgun Its because I don't have a rifle with me. :p

I like all three types of guns but rifles are buy far my favorite. When I go to a gun shop I always gravitate to the long gun section usually ignoring the handgun rack entirely unless I happen to think about it.

As others have pointed out best is a relative term. I enjoy rifles more, collecting and shooting and working on, for various reasons. I shoot handguns more though bc if I'm ever forced to use a firearm it is many times more likely to be a handgun. Lugging an AR15 around is generally frowned upon.

Rifles are to pistols, what pistols are to sticks and sticks are to fists, and crew served weapons are to rifles. A way to get more power and more range at the expense of convenience. In each case, in a fight the former beats the latter 9 times out of 10, however 9 times out of 10 you don't have the former when someone comes after you with the later.

I shoot and hunt more with shotguns and have plenty of pistols, but I consider myself a rifleman. If I could only have one weapon it would be a rifle.
They are so much more useful and fun to shoot. The further away I can shoot, the better I like it. Especially in combat. But I agree that sometimes you need the right tool for job at hand. It's great to live in America and have a some of each.

Look in my safe and you'll see the rifles win the count. The shotguns come second. I only have four handguns. The handguns get more range time...maybe because I need more work on those little guys. :D At sixty years plus...maybe it doesn't matter anymore.

None of my rifles are "high end" guns and none are super accurate but, I like shooting them. A little .22 or a .30-06...the all make me grin!

I dont know why but I just feel more comfortable with a rifle. Id rather go into combat with a rifle than a pistol I guess.

Only a fool would willingly take a pistol into combat over a rifle.

Pistols are what you take for backup to your Primary Long Gun, or for when you DON'T expect trouble.

Rifles are for when you expect trouble.
