So I was shooting in the yard yesterday..decided to shoot my mag of Corbon 125gr 9mm +p that I keep in my glock 17 as home defense ammo...to my surprise and shock I had several slide lock issues...the slide would lock back like it was empty...like 4 time in one magazine! This would'vr sucked if it was 3am and I was defending the homestead against some wack job.....I'll be checking my carry ammo more often......anyone know why this problem may have occured?I have shot the corbon before to make sure it didn't have any problems and it seemed ok..now this....makes me wonder..
BTW..it wasn't the magazine..I use it alot in idpa..and actually used it last night at idpa and had no issues..so it was most definately the ammo....

Have you ever detail stripped the gun? The most common Glock assembly mistake is putting the trigger pin in before the upper lockingblock pin, which doesnt put tension on the slide stop spring and will cause it to flop around and usually lock the slide back.

I run 200 rounds of any carry ammo through a new gun before I'll carry it. Yes, it's expensive, but it's cheaper than a surprise funeral. Any ammo that has been carried gets shot after 6 months because I've seen bullets come loose in their cases.

Rotating carry ammo is part of routine firearms safety checks I do. It may not happen everytime I clean the gun, but I consider it of the same kind of activity.

Once a year - shoot 'em up.

Remove the slide and insert a magazine loaded with some of those rounds into the frame until it seats.

Notice how close the bullets' wide front ends are to the inner nub of the slide lock lever. Some bullets may engage this nub as they rise in the magazine, especially if they have scooted forward in the magazine under recoil.

You can make sure you have the right slide lock installed. You could change ammunition. Or you could take a little off the inner edge of the nub until the bullets' ogive no longer engage it, but the follower will.

There's nothing more gratifying than taking your carry piece to the range, firing all your carry ammo and spares, and going 100%.

I shot the gun and magazine that night and no problems w/ other ammo...for now I'm switching ammo.....
I have had no other feeding issues,or any issues for that matter with this gun. It's 100% except for this Corbon stuff.....what does everyone else use for 9mm defense loads???
for now I have some 124 gr subsonics in there.....and another mag of the Winchester "personal protection" 115gr(are these anygood?)

I like the Ranger T +P 9mm for carry use. But I rarely carry a 9mm, so I use the Ranger T +P .45 instead.

I was firing some carry ammo a few years ago that had been in my carry mag for a while and it did the same thing you described. Swapped out slide stops and everything was fine after that.

It sounds like you tend to thumb out your carry ammo to use the magazine for competition and then thumb it back in. After doing that enough times its possible that them ammo could start getting a little out of spec. Further if you chamber and rechamber a round more than once that is likely to cause some problems as well.

The Corbons were maybe a year old...I do take them in and out once a week..maybe I'll keep this mag for just HD......I'll be trying the ammo you guys suggested,thanks..

I carry GDHP and GDHP+P in my BHP. I don't mix the loadings, but I buy whichever I happen to see first when I get down to 1 or 2 boxes.

I have had problems with Corbon 9MM being oversize - this was awhile ago. It is a good idea to put the loaded mag in the gun with the slide off and see if the nose of the bullet can hit the slide stop. This is a fairly common problem with 1911s and some HP ammo. I was surprised to discover that Glock has several different slide locks for various models. They all look about the same but they are not.
