We've already seen the joint Assembly/Senate hearings, the usual diatrible from the press, and the hand-wringing from the anti-gunners.

We're going to see floor votes in just a few weeks, and we need to be ready.

Key to our victory is having enough votes for the bill in both the Senate and Assembly that exceed the required votes for a veto override.

If we fall short, that's it. We're done.

As I've tried to argue before, though, we have a really good chance at overriding the veto from Governor Doyle. Honest, we really do.

But why wait until the last minute to scramble for phone numbers and email addresses of people you know who want this bill passed?

Please begin now to put together a list of email addresses of those people you know want to have the choice of self-defense, or who support the right.

Also begin putting together a list of phone numbers for those who don't have internet access.

All of this is going to happen lightning-quick. We need to be able to respond within a few hours or even a minute's notice.

There are already hundreds of people who have hundreds of email addresses that they forward to everyone, everytime we're seeing some action on the bill.

Please--please!---take whatever time you need to put together your own email alert list. And be ready when the time strikes.

I'm sure that there are members and lurkers here on THR who think that I'm a mindless cheerleader for our CCW bill.

Cheerleader? Maybe. Mindless? No.

Our chances of overriding Doyle are better than last year. They could even be described as "significantly better" than last year. Or even extremely better.

So, please, trust me on this. And do all that you can to help make this happen.

If you'd like to help in any way, please email me at [email protected].

Thanks for the bump.

I keep mentioning that there are good reasons to believe that we can override the governor.

Without going into more detail than I should, here's one example:

The past two gun shows we've done have hammered legislators with postcards. Hundreds and hundreds of them.

One freshman Democrat representative, who previously was wishy-washy on the concealed carry bill, said that he was completely surprised by the number of postcards he received from his constituents. And he said that he would have to seriously consider voting for the bill because of that response.

Every letter, every postcard, every phone call, and every email increases our odds.

Please don't back down at the time when we need to be as aggressive as possible.

Dick, FYI, I got my cell-phone replaced so I am "reachable" again, and not just at work.

Let me know whenever you need some more legislator lables for post cards...

It blows my mind that WI has much tighter gun laws then MN. I own hunting land in WI and the taxes are better but the gun control is crazy!

Any ideas why?????

AJ, if that number has changed, please email me with the new one.

mindpilot, while our laws on concealed carry are indeed nuts, our other gun laws make states such as Michigan look downright totalitarian. (With all due apologies to those from Michigan who are fighting to change their laws).

There's so much I want to say, but so much than I cannot say.

Please, fellow Cheeseheads, trust me when I say that this time around is going to be a whole new ballgame.

And please do everything you can to help.

Hunter, you have (as you probably well know) Democrat Reprentative Bob Zielgelbauer as your assembly rep. Never voted for our bill, never will.

In exchange for his being so supportive of your God-given rights, might I suggest that he give a Monica to every registered voter? At least you'd be getting some of your tax dollars back in measurable ways.

I'm looking at his photo right now. You don't get lips like those from sucking on doorknobs.

As for Senator Leibham, he's safe. He said from the outset that he was for concealed carry.

I'm going to hurt you for that, boy. While I agree that Ziggy is probably more a "catcher" than "pitcher", the mere SUGGESTION that I would allow him anywhere NEAR my body... I AM gonna hurt you for that...

And now, I'm probably going to have that mental image when enjoying my wife's company... WOW, am I gonna hurt you. Maybe pass on some taped conversations to the missus...

"...for the good it does."

Doesn't do you much good to be lying on your back and being fed grapes by a bunch of nublie young ladies, either, does it?

Holy Jesus. Did I just say that?

OK, it doesn't do our cause much good when you're lying back with...well, you get the idea.

You and I have to talk, and soon. I like land-line phones. You know my number.

For the rest of you who are just tuning in, get ready for some real fireworks. Everything--and I mean everything--has changed.

And it's in our favor.

Remember that scene from "The Untouchables" when Sean Connery's charcter was bleeding every which way from Sunday, yet found the strength to point out the train schedule for Capone's book-keeper? And he said, "What are you prepared to do about it?," as he died.

The good news is that none of us have to die to achieve our goals. The only question we have to ask ourselves is, "what are you prepared to do about it?"

We have a fight on our hands, a fight that we can win. In fact, a fight that we have even better odds of winning than we did even last year.

The question, as is always the question posed to those who believe firmly in a cause or a right, is simply this: "what are you prepared to do about it?"

There is absolutely no reason that we should lose. None. The NRA's clout in Wisconsin is such that no legislator outside the Madison/Milwukee area can afford to cross the NRA. Or us.

But what are you prepared to do? How many minutes or even hours are you willing to devote to a cause that you say with your words that you support?

We're going into battle with a governor whose Zogby poll ratings show him as being extremely vulnerable. Recent polls from Wisconsin Public Radio/Norbert College put him ahead, but only within the margin of error, even amongst those who don't know who Jim Doyle is. And please recognize that the WPR/ Norbert polls have--shall we say--a political bias?

We're going into battle against a governor who every week, week after week, is up against stories of campaign finance scandals, possibilities of corruption, large donations from Indian tribes involved in the casino operations here in WI, and worse. Doyle gets campaign contributions from Indian tribes in Jersey! On top of all that, the people who funnel campaign contributions to him through the tribes here in Wisconsin have ties to some of the worst Chicago mobsters in recent years.

In other words, we're going up against a governor who is extremely vulnerable.

Don't think we can win? Only if you shrink before the task ahead of you.
