Memorial Day 2007 Gun Rights Alert:

SPENCER COGGS TO HARPOON YOUR FIREARM RIGHTS -- ONE DAY AFTER YOU CELEBRATE FREEDOM

No compromise gun lobby to expose Democrat's Memorial Day sneak attack: WGO targets gun control bill through major media campaign

Dear Gun Owner,

Do you take Memorial Day seriously?

Surely most WGO members and gun owners across Wisconsin do.

But does Milwaukee liberal Spencer Coggs see Memorial Day weekend as something different?

Does Coggs view this as a time when our guard is down so he can launch a handgun ban attack through committee -- right on the heels of Memorial Day?

It looks that way to us, since Coggs has scheduled a public hearing on Senate Bill 104, the so-called "Responsible Gun Ownership Bill" for Tuesday, May 29.

SB 104 is legislation that proposes to make it a crime for Milwaukee County gun owners -- we're talking about law-abiding gun owners -- to privately sell a handgun to a friend or relative.

What that means is simple: you could go to prison simply because you sold a handgun -- your own personal property -- privately and not through the National Instant Check System (NICS).

If SB 104 passes, expect state legislators to scramble to pass similar bills all across Wisconsin.

In fact, showing his true attitude toward the Second Amendment in a press release, Coggs claimed your freedom to do so is a "loophole" that "like a sewer pipe pours firearms into our community."

Frankly speaking, SB 104 aims to assassinate your liberty, to "close the loophole."

This week WGO delivered thousands of member petitions to Coggs and members of the Labor, Elections and Urban Affairs Committee that will hear testimony on this bill next Tuesday.

They will only see the light, if they feel the heat.

Now it's time to honor our vets by doing what they've done for us: SHOOT BACK.

BATTLE PLAN:

1. Call the State Capital at 1-800-362-9472 and tell Spencer Coggs to drop SB 104. Criminals will not submit themselves to the Instant Check system, so expanding NICS into private sales of handguns will only restrict the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding gun owners.

2. While time is short, we're launching a major media initiative and here's how you can help: At the end of this alert is a link to our website, where you can listen to a radio ad WGO will be running on major market radio stations through next Tuesday.

The ad exposes this anti-gun bill and mobilizes citizens to action.

When you get done reading these instructions, I want you to log onto our website and listen to the ad (you will need Windows Media Player to run the file).

If you agree with the message I need your help to put it on the air throughout Milwaukee County.

I want the ad running non-stop -- so Coggs and the liberal elite cannot escape the groundswell of anger from informed citizens.

Make no mistake: This will take money.

Our mission: Demonstrate to Coggs, [Robert] Wirch and [John] Lehman -- the three Democrats on the committee -- that pushing a handgun bill like this will be a LOSING issue politically.

We must demonstrate WGO is watching and standing guard -- always.

We have already invested a good deal of our budget into buying air time for the ad on Milwaukee's largest radio stations.

Thousands of constituents will hear the truth about SB 104 -- how it undermines freedom during this time when we should be honoring freedom -- and how citizens can take action to stop it.

But we can do more. In fact, it is imperative that we MUST do more.

I believe we can double, triple, even quadruple the air time we buy PLUS run the ad on additional stations increasing media penetration.

It's only possible IF you will help us with a donation, right now.

If you help us today we can run the ad in so many media outlets simultaneously that Coggs and the anti-gunners will think they are totally surrounded and outgunned: precisely because they will be.

We begin running the ad on Thursday and it will run through Memorial Day, and vamp up frequency to increase grassroots pressure on Tuesday, the day of Coggs' hearing on SB 104.

Please be generous. Your donation equals real firepower:

- A donation of $75 will allow us to buy airtime to impact some 11,000+ MORE listeners.

- A donation of $100 will allow us to inform 15,000+ MORE listeners.

- And a donation of $250 will allow us to warn well over 25,000 NEW listeners.

That's a big return on your investment for gun rights.

So you can see that no matter what level you contribute at, your donation will make a difference and increase the pressure we put on this out-of-control committee.

Of course, if you can only give $15, $25, or $50 every dollar will count as we strive to meet our goal to kill this anti-gun legislation.

Time is short. Memorial Day is a few days away. The committee vote on SB 104 is almost here.

But this battle won't be won or lost then; it will be determined by what you do NOW.

Take a moment to listen to our ad. If you agree with our pro-gun message, all we ask is that you'll give generously to this important campaign.

Don't you agree that those who died for our freedom deserve our very best effort to preserve freedom?

"Wisconsin's only no-compromise gun rights organization"

A warning to Wisconsin gun rights supporters!

The bill the "Executive Director" references is a real threat to Wisconsin, that is true. However, one must wonder if this has all come about AFTER, the NRA and the WCPS has already sent alerts out on this bill to it's membership?

Do not give a dime to WGO. And warn everyone you know that supports gun rights in Wisconsin to do the same.

Any impartial viewer would be very suspicious that the WGO is Corey Graff's, aka the "Executive Director's" personal enrichment scheme, and worse, WGO may actualy be an anti-gun shill organization once they learn a few facts.

The WGO has repeatedly and deliberately attempted to confuse Wisconsin gun-right supporters by denouncing attempts to pass shall-issue carry in Wisconsin (as it is practiced in thirty eight other states) as "back door gun registration". And in the fall 2006 elections, the WGO ran radio ads against Republican senator Dave Zien, who was the most pro-gun legislator in Wisconsin bar none, and the primary sponsor of shall-issue concealed carry legislation in our state.

Now an anti-gun Democrat sits in his place...

Despite all of WGO's "no compromise" rhetoric on gun rights, one must wonder if it's actual deeds speak louder than it's words.

From what Wisconsin public records and filings we do have on WGO, the organization repeatedly pays the bulk of it's money to "Graff Communications". One could easily assume that means Corey pays himself with the WGO's membership dues to write his little newsletter and run his website, while hiding behind his "no-compromise" stance to evade the need to actually ever accomplish anything. That is, other than take pot-shots at legitimate Wisconsin pro-gun organizations and politicians.

Meanwhile, all the real grass-roots organizing and lobbying for pro-gun causes in Wisconsin is, and continues to be, unpaid and all volunteer. People who make the time to fight for our gun rights and work their day jobs at the same time.

I wonder if the "Executive Director's" commitment to Wisconsin gun rights extends far enough to not profit from it personally?

Corey, you've been exposed for what you are REPEATEDLY here on THR, and you have a lot of nerve coming back with your hand out. Although considering your consistent brazenness, I suppose it should come as no surprise.

I was just thinking it is too bad Dave Zien is no longer in the State Senate because then we would have had an even better chance to stop it than we do now.

All the money spent to oust Dave should have been spent on keeping a pro-gun Republican majority instead of reducing the number of republicans in the senate...it would have made this a non-issue.

Uh...

How about all of the money? :scrutiny:

Do you approve of Dave Zien's ouster, and just wish a little less was spent on it? Or was your post just worded badly?

I'd also just love to hear what "major market" radio stations the WGO will be running these ads on...

Just worded badly. I will revise. Thanks for the heads up.
