CONCEALED CARRY GUN RIGHTS ALERT

Dear Second Amendment Activist:

The silence is deafening.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, January 17, 2005, is the scheduled vote in our state senate
on Senate Bill 403 or, the Personal Protection Act - the shall-issue concealed
carry bill.

The state senate will be voting a second time tomorrow to approve the bill,
because of amendments added in the state assembly on December 14.

The NRA didn't do its job then. And it looks like NRA leadership isn't going to
lift a finger this time, either.

We have yet to see one single alert from the institutional gun lobbies about
tomorrow's vote.

Why?

Well, with such an important concealed carry vote as tomorrow's - the last
chance gun owners will have to clean up the bill - the silence is indeed
deafening.

How many times are we told by the institutional gun lobby that we should all
stand united, work together, to remove bad language when we have a chance?

Well right now is our chance. And these alleged "leaders" have all left town.

So much for standing united for the right to keep and bear arms when the chips
are really down. This proves what WGO has always said: The compromisers simply
refuse to stand united for the Second Amendment.

Instead they've chosen a path of PERCEIVED popularity - and a perceived
pragmatic approach to "progress" - with Madison's elite.

Sure, they're standing united alright - shoulder-to-shoulder with the very
cronies who are selling your gun rights down the river (just as long as they
continue to get invited to plush cocktail parties with state politicians).

In fact, there's a very good reason these so-called "pro-gun" groups are
clamming up when you are counting on them most: The amendments added in that
assembly vote are anti-gun amendments - backroom sell-outs - that further shred
your Second Amendment liberties.

You'll recall that WGO reported immediately after the assembly vote that Dick
Baker, a volunteer with the we're-unprofessional-and-proud-of-it-organization
Wisconsin Concealed Carry Association (WCCA), said: "There should be no fight
there [state senate]...and the amended bill should pass quickly."

In other words: 'SHUT. YOUR. MOUTH. Politicians are calling the shots and we
won't rock the boat because they might get upset at us and we'll lose a seat at
the table. So just clam up, trust us, and accept the loss to your firearm
freedoms.'

'We know what's best. Don't question us.'

The institutional gun lobby is keeping quiet, rolling over and playing dead -
giving a silent endorsement to gun control.

Some things never change.

Of course, they claim they'll clean up this concealed carry bill after it's
passed.

But let's back up: Since they are compromising your inalienable rights here -
and given their long track record of selling out gun owners to the left
destroying any credibility with gun owners - are you willing to gamble on their
promises?

We're not.

Our advice: If you value your gun rights, don't bet on their hand.

ACTION:

You MUST call the state senators listed below TODAY - and also your district
senator, if not one of these listed - and tell them to either 1) clean up the
Personal Protection Act, amend it by REMOVING the Department of Justice (DOJ)
list language and amendment 15 or 2) vote NO on the [anti-gun] amended bill (SB
403) and kill it because you will not accept a massive new gun control package
to be passed on your watch - especially with a Republican-controlled
legislature.

MESSAGE: I'm a law-abiding gun owner and I thought Republicans were supposed to
be pro-gun! Perhaps I was mistaken, but I urge the senator to either remove
amendment 15 and the Department of Justice registration list language from the
Personal Protection Act OR KILL this anti-gun legislation.

Dear State Senator:

As a law-abiding gun owner-activist, I OPPOSE the GUN CONTROL amendments the
state assembly added recently to SB 403, or the Personal Protection Act (PPA).

I especially consider Amendment 15 to be most dangerous to my firearm freedoms
as it would make it a crime to be within 100 feet of a school bus simply
driving down the road should I choose to carry a firearm under this bill.

SB 403 is already a fatally-flawed piece of gun legislation. It will create a
mandatory central computer registry list of permitted gun owners with Department
of Justice (DOJ) who choose to exercise what is already an inalienable right to
bear arms.

I also consider the amended PPA a BETRAYAL of gun owners by Republicans and the
institutional gun lobbies who endorsed these anti-freedom provisions in what
should be a clean pro-gun bill.

I urge you to remove all amendments and the DOJ gun owner registration list
language from this bill. Any other action will be considered an anti-gun vote.

Wisconsin Gun Owners, Inc. (WGO) will keep me informed on whether you do your
job (uphold your oath of office to safeguard my constitutional liberties) or
choose to betray gun owners.

Politicians' phones aren't ringing today.

As we've reported, the institutional gun lobby is keeping gun owners quiet to
let the PPA pass as is - even though we have a Republican majority in the state
senate who has the power to easily clean up this legislation.

Republicans are in power. We must demand they use that power to pass a CLEAN
concealed carry bill.

Not a bill that continually gets worse, further eroding your Second Amendment
freedoms.

The access-at-all-costs so-called "gun rights" leaders want you to keep your
mouth shut - especially today.

The compromise-at-all-costs Republicans want you to keep your mouth shut -

I applaud your efforts on TRYING to get a 'vermont' or 'alaska' type CCW here in wisconsin, BUT it isn't going to happen here.

With all the left wingers in Madison & Milwaukee, we'll be lucky to get the 'current' bill passed.

The only thing that is going to happen tomorrow (Tuesday 1/17) is there should be a 'rubber stamp' on the Assembly's amendment. Then it goes to Doyle's desk for his veto.

If the Senate would change the bill, it would have to go back to the Assembly again for their 'stamp'.

The last amendment (Huber's) was granted to get her vote, which will be needed in order to override Doyle's veto.

I just want a 'shall-issue' permit system in the state so that I can carry if I so desire. We can clean it up later!!

I would of even been willing to have the LEO's have the ability to see my CCW/PPA status on my drivers license if that would be what it took to get this passed (as some other states require) rather than my car's license tag number.

Trapper, I guess I should have used your reply :rolleyes: I've read this guy's comments before & have always disagreed with him.

I wanted to answer him before someone got the idea to follow his ideas and destroy our chances this year.

We've GOT to get it done this year!!! Next year we might lose too many of 'our' guys & gals and by some stroke of luck, Doyle might be back with more power...... oh gawd I hope that doesn't happen.

artjs - I get the feeling that Mr. Graff is fully aware of the political situation, but for whatever reason prefers to see this current effort fail. Frankly, I take it personally, since his methods make it far more likely that myself and my family will continue to be denied effective means of self-defense.

Please note that my previous post was directed only at Mr. Graff and his organization.

Translation:
Hi, I'm Corey. I'm hoping you're too stupid to understand that I'm completely quoting Dick Baker out of context, and inferring that he means "SHUT. YOUR. MOUTH.", when in fact Dick is talking about the feeling that there should be no fight between either side of the isle (Dems and Repubs; i.e., forcasting tomorrow's vote). Now I'm going to tell you that if you shut up and trust WCCA, you're going to lose firearm freedoms that don't even exist right this very moment. Nevermind you can't lose what you don't have, I have no time for rational thought! Grrr!
 
In Minnesota we put together a grass roots movement to reinstate the Minnesota Personal Protection Act that was so strong we rammed the act through the second time. The anti-2A folks didn't even know what hit them. It was a thing of beauty.
 
Trip20 - I hadn't seen the attack on Dick Baker (aka Monkeyleg) until after your post. Reading Mr. Graff's rantings gives me a worse headache than listening to "The Ideas Network", so I stopped a bit short of that part.

Dick - When you read this, please accept my condolences for your having to put up with this kind of tripe. Also, know that your efforts are well appreciated within the state. Thanks again for all of your hard work!! :)
 
The best of luck to all of you in WI. as for the "action behind the lines" Corey seems to somewhat out of touch with the political realities of how State capitals work. Try say focused on moving the bill forward. There are a lot of people out here pulling for you.

Corey has the luxury of having to do nothing but sling mud.

He also has the luxury of making a few bucks by doing so (I have your tax returns, Corey).

Think about this: if racism ended tomorrow, Jesse Jackson would be out of a cushy job. If deaths and injuries from guns ended tomorrow, Sarah Brady would be out of a job.

And if we get concealed carry, what happens to Corey?

He has a vested interest in seeing Doyle's veto sustained.

Why don't you tell us a little bit about Wisconsin Gunowners. I looked at their webpage and couldn't find any information about how many members they have or who was their lobbyist in Madison. It looks like they have links to 6 press releases on their website. Has anyone ever published one?

There is one oped piece written by Larry Pratt linked, but all of Corey's articles read coming soon.

I seem to have missed any mention of local contacts for their cutting-edge grassroots tactics and a bold educational program.

In fact the only other name on their website is Larry Pratt even though WGO is not legally affiliated with GOA.

It looks to me like WGO is a one man show.

Jeff, for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2005 the WGO reported:

Contributions: $33,140.00

Other income: $25,080.00

Program services: $39,954.00

Management expenses: $16,372.00

While $16K isn't a lot for someone who's actually working, it's a nice chunk of change for just slinging mud. I'm sure that any of the WCCA volunteers who've worked dozens or even hundreds of hours for the cause wouldn't mind getting $16K as compensation.

As for those "plush" cocktail parties he refers to, I must have missed those somehow. The best I've gotten is a piece of cheese on a Ritz cracker and a warm can of Sprite.

Of course, Senator Zien's office always has some really good trail mix and some excellent venison sausage, but Corey wouldn't know about that, since he's not welcome in that office or any other.

Corey claimed that the WGO had 7,000 members. He charges $22 a member. Somehow I don't think he's telling the truth about how many members WGO has. But, then, he hasn't been telling the truth about anything.
 
Hunter, those numbers mean that we're doing right.

OK, maybe that sounds like a cliche. But they're not.

The attorney for the State Ethics Board knows us, and knows that we do everything 200% legal.

The attorneys and the auditors for the State Elections Board--damn, I've even gotten to know these guys on a first-name basis--know that we are absolutley straight-up.

The anti-gunners can skirt the rules, but we cannot. We must obey the law. If we do not, then we are by definition "criminals."

Sooner or later, Corey is going to screw up. He's a con artist, so it's in his blood. He moved from Colorado to Wisconsin and, from what I understand, it was a hasty move.

Gee, Corey, why such a hasty move?

Thanks for making a great point. Find me one state that has instigated more BS gun control laws after passing CCW. One.

Anyway, VT/AK style carry or not, these laws have a proven negative effect on the rates of the 4 main categories of violent crime (rape, aggravated assault, kidnapping, and murder) IN EVERY STATE that has passed them.

(See, the reason concealed carry laws work in reducing rime is not due to the fact that bad guys are being piled up like cord wood down at the city morgue thanks to a public skilled-at-arms – that would be nice, but no, they work in reducing crime because they force a rewriting of the mathematical equation criminals use to determine the gain/risk of their chosen career field.)

AK didn't begin what I hope becomes a reality here and other states, they had to work towards it. I hear the same complaint from a lot of my shooting buddies; “If they don’t pass a Vermont-style carry, I just can’t get behind the PPA.” My response is: "So you're against a law that's been proven to lower murder rates?"

Shall-issue is a strong pro-gun move, it historically leads to a better environment for gun owners in every state that has passed it. If you’re against the PPA, fine - tell me why - stop with the self-centered “how it makes me feel” argument, and explain to me why I should be against it utilizing hard data.
