Badger Guns of West Milwaukee is going to cease to sell firearms as of the end of the year. Badger has been a target of antigunners for a long time. The Brady Campaign has used it's deep pockets to destroy another gun dealer.

There had been two suicides using rental guns in their firing range within a period of couple of weeks. This happened a year or two ago and Badger responded by ceasing to rent guns. Even though it wasn't their fault that two nuts, the 2nd being a copycat, committed suicide there, they tried to do the right thing.

Badger's big problem was that guns that they sold were traced to a lot of crimes. Antigunners claim that Badger encouraged straw sales. This is BS, but I'll get to that later. 4 Milwaukee cops have civil lawsuits against Badger claiming that the officers were shot with guns that were straw purchased from Badger. I come from a family of NYPD officers, so I feel for these officers. That said, I think the cases are misguided.

Badger happens to be located in an area where a lot of inner city poor folks go to buy their guns. There is a criminal element in this population. Badger cannot help this. Do they turn someone down for a firearm purchase because of the way they look? That would be racial/age/etc discrimination. Unless Badger knowingly sold guns in straw purchases, I cannot blame them. They even prohibit cell phone use in the store in an effort to keep thugs out.

I know the owner, Adam pretty well. He is a good guy. He always goes out of his way to work with you on price. He is the only local dealer who will give you a good price on trade in and sales. I've personally seen him turn down suspected straw sales numerous times over the last 3 years. His dad and brother work there as well and would always give free range time to me. The other salesman was ex special forces and very very knowledgabe. The gunsmith was also very cool, fixing minor stuff for no charge. I was never lead astray or pressured into the wrong gun. In fact, The owner got me to try CZs, now my favorite semi auto gunmaker (S&W & Colt too).

This is a sickening day for us gun guys. It is also questionably an act of discrimination to pressure Badger to close it's doors, as Badger has a lot of African American customers. I am not someone who uses racism as a crutch (I am a white male). In fact I abhor the excuse and playing of the race card in a frivalent way. In this case, it is clearly true.

I wish Adam, Wally, Mike, Milan, and Butch well. God bless.

The shop is going to remain a shooting range, firearms training, and sell firearm accessories. I've bought and sold about 30 guns there in the last few years. All the other local dealers SCREW you on trades. These guys give a fair price (still lower than a private sale, but you save on tax) on both ends of the transaction.

That shop has been in the news for years due to their business practices

The Badger Guns employee pointed out the answer and asked him if he wanted to change it. Mr. Collins changed his answer to say he was buying it for himself. The lawsuit says the transaction had all the markings of a "straw sale"—the purchase of a gun for someone who can't legally own one—and that the Badger Guns employee shouldn't have allowed it.

That is from the WSJ

Sure it does. The WSJ, actually the only paper that I read, is located in Bloomberg's town. While politically and fiscally conservative, it is still "the media" and clearly anti-gun In NYC, many of the consevatives are still anti-gun. Im from NYC and that's the way it is.

About a year ago the state police arrested about 20 Long Island gun dealers for selling ARs who's stocks had been deemed "adjustable" (against NYS law) even though the stocks had been made non collapsable. I happened to be on the Island at that time and bought guns from two, T&T Gunnery and Hunter Sports. I grew up there and bought many rifles from them. Never did they try to show me how to make my ARs illegal.
The WSJ reported on those arrests too. The stings were conducted by people on Bloomberg's payroll.
Bloomberg and his organization are out to make it unprofitable to own a gun shop.
It's an effort to make gun stores go under. Either they sue them into insolvency or try to entrap them.

Too bad. I've bought a couple of guns from Badger and always got a good deal. I wasn't a huge fan of their range because it was somewhat poorly lit and the ventilation wasn't all that good. Otherwise, they seem like decent, honest folks.

This won't stop anything. The gangbangers will just head a little further west and buy from Shooters Shop or Fletchers.

You are from the area so you get the joke. It's the Clientele!

I agree about the range, but they do let you shoot high powered rifles and Russian ammo. Fletchers, which is very close to me, has a decent range, but wont allow anything over a .44mag, no rifles, no shotguns, and no Ruskie ammo. What a drag! The worst thing about the range is they never do trades, or buy from you outright. It's a pain in the a$$. Shooter's shop will buy stuff from you, but at low low prices. They offered me $450 for my Arsenal AK in great shape w/8-30 round steel mags. I was livid. I went to Badger and got $650, which I traded some of the cash for a CZ 75B in satin nickle. With the left over cash I got Hogues and some boxes of ammo.

The mayors of Milwaukee, the police chiefs, just about every politician in the city, and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel have been on a crusade for over ten years to close down Badger. The BATF said in the news story that the license was revoked because of paperwork issues, but the politicians and media would have everyone believe that Badger was just giving guns to criminals with one hand and taking the cash with the other.

Next stop: The Shooters Shop. Their days are numbered now.

There were 18 gun stores in the city of Milwaukee in the 1980's. Then there were none. There were some gun stores in Milwaukee county, and then there were just two. Now there's one.

What does that tell you?

What does that tell you?

It tells me that poor ole Nasser better get his butt out of Milwaukee County if he wants to continue pursuing firearms as a hobby.

I am seriously bummed by this. It's the closest shop to where I live and they've always had decent prices. Good personalities to boot. Too many bad experiences at Shooter's Shop to want to go back there. Least they'll keep the range in operation.

The only silver lining to all this is I just found a new FFL dealer who does kitchen counter transfers for a very reasonable price. Goes by the name of Freedom Firearms right on 60th and Lincoln in case any of you local cats are interested; not far from Badger at all.

Seriously, with Badger closing shop, the Hartland Sportsman's Club being blocked from reopening, and constant pressure on McMiller to close down I am very worried as to what will be available for us shooters in the coming years.

Gov. Scott Walker was.

It's mostly Milwaukee politicians who are raising a stink. The murderers and criminals are usually residents of Milwaukee.

Milwaukee's mayor is vehemently anti-gun. Even though open carry was/is legal in WI, Milwaukee police were instructed to arrest anyone open carrying in Milwaukee. This is against state law, so they end up releasing the person after doing a warrant search and making the person sufficiently aggravated.

The articles I just read said Badger is staying open and will have a new owner/FFL by the first of the year. They did the same thing a few years ago when they shuffled owners (father to son wasn't it and the father is still the landlord?)

Who said it is closing?

I've brought my 44mag lever rifle to Fletchers before, but I'm pretty sure that's the biggest thing you're allowed to shoot. Basically, only pistol caliber ammo.

They have 2 high power lanes that you can shoot anything. It's only 25 yards, but I've shot 30-06, 460 magnum, 5.56, shotguns, and .308

EDIT: I read incorrectly. I thought you meant Badger. You are correct about Fletchers.

I've read more here about Badger Arms over the years than any other local gun shop anywhere else. That place is cursed.

That's because the media have had it in for Badger for years, and have kept a spotlight on them.

If Badger had built their store 60 blocks west, it would be The Shooters Shop that was the place where the gangstahs went to try to buy guns, and it would be The Shooters Shop getting the media and politician's attention.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel was one of the first major newspapers in the country to ban ads for guns from its classifieds section, and that was in the 1980's. As I said before, there were 18 gun stores in the city, and now there are none.

It's an extremely anti-gun place to have a gun store, and Badger has paid for that dearly. Badger helped the police and the ATF far more than most gun stores would, and they still got the shaft.

I guess after a few million dollar law suits for false arrest, illegal search and seizure, false imprisonment, and anything else a good lawyer could think up the tax payers may actually wake up from zombie land and vote that idiot out of office.

Sorry to hear about your LGS shutting down.
