This letter to the editor appeared in today's Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Even my wife, who isn't into gun politics, just shook her head and said the writer was an idiot.

New ideas needed to solve problem

After much reflection on the problem of gun violence in Milwaukee, I think we must look to new solutions.

The county and city of Milwaukee must control the sale of pistol ammunition of all calibers. A photo ID could be issued to all those wishing to purchase ammunition. People should be able to account for the usage of the ammunition. They must be over 21 and show proof of ownership of the gun. I suggest no more than 10 rounds of ammunition should be sold at any one time.

Also, I think that the place to purchase ammunition should be any Milwaukee police station.

These are just a few ideas. If people try, I'm sure they can come up with more. Perhaps the mayor could hold a few meetings around the city. Who knows what problems we might solve?

You folks in other states have no idea how painful it is to live in Wisconsin. :(

All the californians here just said "Oh reaaaaaaaaly?"

M'leg,

Ever consider moving?

If it's that painful,
let the cheese heads have it,
and move northwest
(OR, WA, ID, AK...)

Lawrence E. Peters is an idiot!
I wonder if the gun grabbing crowd ever thought about why the states with the most strict gun control laws have the highest crime rates and why those rates go higher when they pass more laws against guns.

We should regulate french fries that way too. And have calorie ration coupons. 2500 a day for males, and 2000 a day for females. That way we have no more obesity.

He must buy his brain cells.......10 at a time from the police stations.

All Mr Peters has to do is look due south. There is no place to buy pistol ammuntion in Chicago, becasue there are no gun shops or any other stores within the City limits that sell ammo.

And just to show he's a complete moron. Last time I checked, according to Federal law you must be 21 to purchase Pistol ammo, which means showing some form of ID when you buy.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!! I live in Illinois !!! We have no state budget (it was due by 30 may), the Publicly Funded Chicago Area Mass Transit system is about to go belly-up (and good riddance), Electric rate De/Re-regulation is still not solved and Gov. Blowdry calls a special session today to discuss...............wait for it ..............Gun Control !!!!! Obviously, the most pressing need in this state.

Nematocyst: "Ever consider moving?"

Every day. I'm working on it every day.

The problem is not that Wisconsin is not a pro-gun state. It's very pro-gun. With the exception of lack of CCW permits, it's one of the most pro-gun states in the country.

The state doesn't require permits to purchase, registration, or other obstacles for gun ownership, which many otherwise pro-gun states are saddled with.

Our problem is that there's a concentration of anti-gunners like the writer above, and they control the politics in Milwaukee, Madison, and to a lesser extent, Racine, Kenosha and Green Bay.

Their problem--meaning the problem of the anti-gunners--is that we have the guns. Even the dullest knife in the anti-gun drawer knows that gun owners outnumber the military and the law enforcement personnel in this country by at least a factor of 20:1.

My guess is that this dullard is not a member of any organized anti-gun group. If he were, they would have stopped him from writing what he did.

Instead, somewhere down the line, he'll be assaulted. Or his wife or another family member will be assaulted.

And he still won't get it.

Every day. I'm working on it every day.
OR is a very large state.

Eastern OR alone is bigger than most states,
and mostly wild and free.

Let me know if you come this way,
friend, and I'll happily show you around.

Nematocyst, I've spent a lot of time in OR. It's a beautiful state.

But OR is just as nuts as WI. For one, I'd like to smack the next Oregon resident who tells me that you don't need air conditioning. I just about died from heat exhaustion on a couple of motorcycle trips. And it cost a lot more $$$ to find an air-conditioned motel.

Also, I talk to gun shop owners around the country every day. And there seems to be a problem in OR. I've heard too many tell me how the state is trying to shut them down.

Maybe that's nationwide, and not just confined to Oregon. But I don't hear those kind of stories from Nebraska or Texas or Arkansas. There's something California-like going on in OR.

But OR is, as I said, a beautiful state. If you could explain to me, though, why it's illegal for me to pump my own gasoline, that might help me understand the state even better.

Yeah, those ultra-liberals are selling their homes in Southern California, making tons of money, and moving up here to Oregon. No true Oregonian likes that. However, we all like money, funny how that works. Come join us in saving this great state from the liberal invasion brother, you're welcome in my book. And that's an invitation from a Native Oregonian, 4 generations deep. Leave any California relatives...umm, in California please. ;)

But OR is, as I said, a beautiful state. If you could explain to me, though, why it's illegal for me to pump my own gasoline, that might help me understand the state even better.

Me too man, it's ridiculous and I've lived here all my life. Odd thing is, when I go to other states, I sit there like an idiot waiting for someone to come out and pump my gas.

No limits on how much ammo you can buy here. Geez, sometimes at Sportsmans Warehouse, fellas will buy the whole lot of it as the clerk rolls the cubic feet of it out on pallets to stock the shelves. Can't argue with that, unless of course, your the guy after that one. :( Which I have been before trying to get a hold of some primers and powder.

Dick,

Don't sweat the gas thing.
It was a political ploy to increase employment after the timber crash.

As for "a problem in OR" re guns,
only in the western third.
And then, it's very, very minor.
I've never had a problem.
On the eastern side of the Cascades,
no problemo.

And Wisconsin can't even
come close to the big country
in E OR.

One can completely disappear there.

East.

Keyword: east.

East of Bend.

Even into Idaho,
but not beyond.

CA hippies
don't want to live
near the Alvord.

If the police station would sell me ammo at last years prices, I'd be shopping there all the time!:D

How to solve gun violence in Mil....?
Maybe crackdown on the criminals. Howsabout a PD at 13th and Cleveland? ;)

"Howsabout a PD at 13th and Cleveland?"

That's "coffee break" territory for the cops.

Let's talk fully-fortified bunkers with full artillery at the district stations on the North Side.

It sure was fun finding out in Illinois that they won't sell ammunition to you if you are not a state resident or a resident of a state that borders Illinois. I mean, that box of .22 rimfire I wanted to do some plinking with my father in-law could have fallen into the wrong hands, especially if those hands were from Virginia!
:scrutiny:

All we'll have is another waste of taxpayer dollars. Hell, I live a block away from the fourth district cop shop. The crack house two doors down is still in operation, and it took over an hour and a half for a cruiser to show up when my neighbor's car was shot up Thursday night. As a resident of the North Side, I say build a wall on par with the Mexican border fence and let the problem solve itself. Problem solved.

NOOOOOOOO DONT LET THOSE BASTARDS GET TO THE PACKERS!!!!!!

*ahem* yes, because when I go to the range, I never shoot more than 10 rounds out of any gun I have. However, if there was a gun welding manic in my home, I would rest easy knowing there was no possible way he could have more than 10 bullets in his weapon. that would be a relief.
I feel, however, that there are better uses for my time and my local Police dept's time then to account for ever bullet I shoot. also, I think there are better uses for Mr Peter's time then to ignorantly blame the crime in his city on inanimate objects.

Thank You.

He's clearly one of those... what's the word... oh yeah... IDIOTS! :banghead:

I just wrote to them as well. I should have copied it, but in a nutshell;
"Regulating ammunition sales will not have the desired effect on those who commit crimes with guns, as evidenced by the fact that crimes with guns are also illegal."

Start prosecuting and convicting them instead of calling them victims!

Who in their right mind would move to Oregon now that they tried to pass socialized medicine out there? Wait til they get it passed and see what happens to your homeless and illegal population. My state confiscates enough of my hard earned money, I won't move to one that is trying to confiscate even more. If things get really bad, I think I'd like to move to Montana, Wyoming or Idaho.
