Picked up a Gen 5 G19 MOS about a year ago and love it. Great factory trigger (for a Glock), great finish, very accurate (1.5" at 25 yards), and fits my hand like a glove.

But I like .40 S&W. So shoot me(preferably with a 9mm so I don't die...):p

I went with the S&W M&P40c and it's OK, but it's no G19.

Picked up a new Alien Gear Cloak Tuck 3.5 holster and am amazed at how comfortable it is. I honestly can't tell the difference between the G19 and the slightly smaller M&P.

Which got me to thinking that a G23 would be pretty cool, but I want the Gen 5 with the improved grip, trigger, barrel, and finish.

I know there are dozens of threads regarding the impending demise of the .40 S&W. This isn't one of them. Well, technically it is.

But more specifically, will Glock spend the R&D time and money to upgrade their .40 S&W models?

My thought is that surely they will, eventually. But Glock seems to be painstakingly slow to make changes, but with the success of the Gen 5 9mm models, surely they will do the same for the .40 S&W and .45 acp, and maybe even the 10mm.

Anyone heard any rumors or buzz about such a release?

And the obligatory pic of my beloved G19 in it's new home...

I asked some guys I know that own a gun store that is very “Glock-centric” and they said Glock is very tight lipped about anything they do.

Well, they did make a contracted version of a new gen G22 for the Brazilians, recently. It was said to have a thicker slide...
Personally, I am very pleased with the Gen4 G22 I bought police surplus. Great shooter.
I prefer the grip texturing to my Gen3’s. The dual recoil spring assembly seems to make it a soft shooter... just about like my G17 with +P+ 9mm.

The Gen 5 guns went back to the two pin design of the pre-Gen 3 guns. My understanding is the three pin design of the Gen 3/Gen 4 was to help fix problems with the .40 S&W models (the Gen 4 was further tweaked in a further attempt to fix the .40 S&W issues). Whether Glock will feel comfortable enough with a two pin Gen 5 in .40 S&W for US sale is anybody's guess.

However, the Brazilian Police have one.

What are/were the .40 issues?

Glock "ka-booms", whether they were a big problem or not, were mostly centered around the .40 S&W models. In addition, the pre-Gen 4 .40 S&W models also had function issues with lights attached. They also seemed to be less durable than their 9mm family members, which I suppose isn't that big a deal as many families of guns have similar issues with .40 S&W.

The G22 was really just a G17 with a different barrel. In other words, it was designed as a 9mm gun and only slightly modified to use the .40 S&W. The Gen 4 was the first generation where the models were optimized for the .40 S&W. Remember the early Gen 4 G17 problems as they were oversprung for the 9mm.

Hilton Yam, who is a Glock fan, had a couple of lengthy articles on the subject on his Modern Service Weapons website, but most of those articles have gone away. Here is an article that has a quote or two from one of those articles regarding the pre-Gen 4 G22.

the 2.0 i just pickup has a better trigger or the same as glock now, i polish the contact points up and its smoother shooting now
this plunger was the key problem area maxresdefault.jpg with the S&w m&p you got to remover the rear sight to get it out of the frame then, take the edge off it a little as the punch is riding on here with a dremel or fine sand paper and polish it up good and reinstall it

I did the same to mine and also added an Apex sear. Has a wonderful trigger now, but the grip ergonomics and accuracy are sub-par compared to my G19. Not by much, though, and it is my carry gun, so I like it enough to bet my life on it.
