If Obama is reelected will he reinstate the Assault Weapons Ban? I know Eric Holder said he would right after Obama was elected but Obama hasn't really hinted at any kind of gun control since. Do you believe this will happen in his possible second term? Also, how much will semi-automatic high capacity rifle prices 'soar' in the next few months? Will it be anything close to 2008?

No, because Congress has to pass a law authorizing the restriction. The Executive Branch has no power to create law. He would sign such a bill if Congress presented it to him.

^Doubt there is much info right now, but if this thread is about thoughts and opinions I'd say "no". I don't think it's on the radar. Given the glut of standard cap mags, rifles with evil features such as bayo lugs, I'd say it wouldn't make a heck of a lot of difference anyway.

As long as we keep getting threads like this, it will probably be similar. Just like every election year...

Obama will sign one if it gets to his desk.
Whether it happens depends on kongress. There are a few diehards like Diane Feinstein who still foam at the mouth for a new AWB, but I think most Ds are still a little too conscious about what happened to them the last go-around.
In short, the crystal ball carved out of a Runestone and which came packaged with a Ouija Board as a 2-for special indicates it probably won't happen.
But, I suppose other gun control laws are possible.

Better look at what he's done with Executive Orders and recess appointments - he cares very little Congress or the restraints the Constitution puts on his power. As long as he can get away with it, he'll do it.
Would you like to see an Executive Order allowing the EPA to restrict the ignition of a primer as a pollutant?

"If Congress won't act, I will..."

The One has repeatedly demonstrated that he will use adminisrative measures to exploit every populist opportunity, and he will challenge spineless Congressmen to fulfill their Constitutional duties while the media portrays them as being opposed to good and necessary measures that our wise and humane President has put in place. Worse, in many cases, once O-Boy has unilaterally taken action, the only way Congress can correct it is to pass a veto-proof measure.

What if Barry announced that "assault guns" present a clear and present danger to the safety of the people he is sworn to protect? He could administratively and unilaterally direct the FBI to deny NICS checks for all semi-autos with detachable magazines. He could implement regulations that would prohibit common carriers from transporting such destructive devices. I'm sure you could think of other measures he could take on his own, with or without legal autority.

And what could the clowns in Congress do? If they try to argue against such common-sense measures, the media will call them out of touch and heartless. Even if they find the courage to oppose the action, anything they try to do would only be a meaningless gesture unless they got 2/3s of the Representatives and Senators on board, and it's certain that there would be enough Congressmen that would remain so invested in the Prez that they'd block such efforts.

The solution? Vote. Be sure your friends vote. If that doesn't work, we're in a world of hurt.

Yes, the obamatron will go sit in every seat in both houses of congress and cast ballots for every congresscritter, in addition to writing it in the first place.

Wasn't there an episode of Schoolhouse Rock on how bills get written? Should I dig up a youtube link to it?

Vote for the appropriate senators and congressman and don't worry about the presidential election.

Barring the fact that O's opponent has a worse track record on 2a issues than he does. The plastic Challenger to presidency has absolutely no chance of winning come November. Even the most cursory look at the polling numbers makes any other conclusion pure Pollyanna fantasy.

Honestly I don't feel the least bit bad about this either since as it stands I'll never get to have a vote that actually matters in the primary and I absolutely intend to vote against the plastic flip flopper from Ma when I do get to vote in the primary. IN ANOTHER MONTH!!

IMO the only way to salvage some positive from this situation is to rebel as the Republican base and make sure the Republican candidate looses to such a degree it either wakes up the party or destroys it. DON'T waste your vote on a lost cause, use it (or the refrain of it) to sent a message that mediocrity will not be tolerated!

Yup, as soon as he realizes he won't have to run for re-election. Why do you think he has held off all this time? He has aboslute distain for the 2nd ammendment. He is only interested in furthering his "progressive" policies. Look for "gun registration" schemes and import regulations with "banned guns." Next chapter will be the UN small arms treaty, pointing out that the US is the number one destination of military surplus arms.

I too found many of the individuals rushing to their LGSs and buying all the black rifles they could afford in 2008 a tad bit assumptive as they seemed to be doing so based on his party and not his statements. Having been through his Presidency Obama has not passed anything but has made statements on gun control, whether directly or through Holder, which is why I am concerned that such regulations might be on their way if he is reelected. Thus I asked the opinions of older and wiser individuals in hope that they may provide some context and insight.

Just vote against the guy, and any anti gun Democrats.

I really think it was a bad thing to vote out the "Blue Dog" Democrats. Those guys were pro gun, at least in my area, and they kept Obama in check for the first two years.

Republicans take gun owners for granted.

I don't trust Republicans as far as I could toss one. Enough of our Republican “buddies” voted for the Brady bill, and the instant check, to make it law, and it was George Bush Sr who banned machine gun manufacture and the import of Chinese guns.

I believe the manufacturing of machine guns for civilians was a result of the Hughes Amendment, part of FOPA, which was actually passed by Reagan but written by Rep. Hughes and Rep. Rangel, both Democrats from New Jersey and New York respectively.

They are already telling us what they are going to do

Search these terms you will see they are getting ready.

1.The responsibility to protect (RtoP or R2P) is a United Nations initiative established in 2005

Does that include Disarming the U.S populace to PROTECT?

2. United Nations’ international gun control restrictions. Last year, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton signed the UN Small Arms Treaty which defines small arms as any handgun, rifle or shotgun used for target practice or hunting.

What happens if the Senate approves it?

3. A recent statement by Defense Secretary Leon Panetta that international law trumps the Constitution when it comes to deploying the US military has resulted in the introduction of impeachment papers in the House of Representatives.:banghead:

What other UN orders suspend our Constitution?

4.“I just want you to know that we are working on it,” Barack Obama reportedly told Sarah Brady regarding gun control. “We have to go through a few processes, but under the radar.”

Was he talking about Fast & Furious?

Ive recently seen city ordinances banning magazines over 10 or 20 or 30 rnd. In States you would think are Pro Gun

And now left-wing billionaire George Soros  is pledging to spend $10 million to defeat Joe Arpaio at the ballot box.

If you value your right you must also get involved in local elections. That is were the Left is targeting.

God, Please Save our County!
