Will Obama reinstate the AWB if reelected?

Vote for the appropriate senators and congressman and don't worry about the presidential election.

Barring the fact that O's opponent has a worse track record on 2a issues than he does. The plastic Challenger to presidency has absolutely no chance of winning come November. Even the most cursory look at the polling numbers makes any other conclusion pure Pollyanna fantasy.

BS. About 2/3rds of respondents say the U.S. is heading the wrong direction. Some current polls have Romney a few percentage pts ahead.
It will be a close race but you are being incrediblky pessimistic about the matter.
And you can tell Polly Anna to take a hike.

As wildly unpopular as Obama is. His and Romney's unfavorable numbers are within 5 pts. Surprisingly favorable polls favor O by almost 20. All this before the Obama political machine even leaves the garage.

Romney is the absolute weakest candidate the Republican party has ran since the reconstruction era.

The EPA rejected a petition for a lead ban.

The 8 ball reading for the last term is the hail mary pass of the people who were dis-proven over the course of the first term.

Didn't think that one through, didja? The petition was from an outside group, and yes, the outside non government group was told twice that the EPA has no authority over lead ammunition. I didn't say the Brady Bunch would get their way, I'm talking the Chief Executive who uses executive orders as laws. if you think the EPA will react to Executive Orders from him the same as some outside fringe group, methinks you enjoyed 420 a wee bit too much.

BTW, your link just goes to US News main page, not a specific story. I see they think the North Korean missile is a fake. :)

BS. Obama by 20 points? :scrutiny: This is La La land cr@pola. And that last sentence is ridiculous hyperbole. Romney and no political superman but, REALLY.

The biggest thing Romney has going for him is Obama, and it just might work for him.

Obama will push an AWB about like he pushed "single payer" health care (another thing he advocated in the past). Not a chance of either one.

+1 to this. If you look at the two objectively, Romney has a worse record against RKBA than Obama does. I'm writing in a candidate and instead focusing on Congressional elections personally because as a friend of the Constitution, neither pass my moral compass test. Principal before party.

It makes no sense for him to try to pass such a thing. He couldn't get it through even if the Republicans agreed with him. If it came down to it, they wouldn't even let him pass gas. If he walked on water, Fox News would declare "Obama can't swim!" If he turned water into wine, a bill reinstating Prohibition would go to vote.

A Congresswoman gets shot in the freaking head, and it's still not enough.

As president, he actually has a stronger 2nd Amendment record than Bush Jr.

The thing is this. Obama doesn't like guns. This is obvious. But he doesn't hate guns.

Much as he told Medvedev, a reelection does give him some additional flexibility.

However, additional flexibility doesn't mean a free pass to do anything he wants. Actions have consequences. Gun control is a massively losing issue for Democrats, and has long term consequences. Ask Bill Clinton. Even Bill Clinton says not to do it. I mean, damn.

The sky is falling once again. Lucky for you, I have helmets for sale. But wait, there's more! Additional shipping and handling charges may apply to the family pack.

Last year, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton signed the UN Small Arms Treaty

The committee that is considering that legislation at the UN hasn't even met yet -- they've only agreed on a date which to meet.

What Clinton signed was an intent to meet to discuss the treaty...which is about three steps removed from actually signing a treaty.

Not THIS again :banghead:

Too many challenges to do so. Everybody thinks that he'll be "unbridled by the contraints of re-election". He'll also be a lame duck and lots of people still "bridled by the contstaints..." will be dis-inclined to cooperate.

Since the last AWB we've got Heller and McDonald and we now have CC, in one form or another, in 49 states if I am not mistaken. That number was about 34 or so when...GHWBush (yes folks it was Bush 41 not Clinton who did that) instituted the AWB.

I vote no.

Romneys record on 2A is worse than the Presidents. and Congress has no desire to pass another AWB. It flies in the face of the tide of public opinion.

So did healthcare reform.

It is naive to think that we can rest on our laurels and not worry about future gun restrictions. The complacency on this forum is overwhelming.

I wouldn't put anything past him in a second term, but we cannot cross that bridge unless it happens.

Organizing voters is our best bet right now.

One more soft ball playin' Supreme Court justice, and you will wish you had taken the situation more seriously.

I thought THR banned topics regarding politics?

This thread is not about politics. It is about 2nd amendment rights. I think the thread should stay open.

If you look at the two objectively, Romney has a worse record against RKBA than Obama does.

In their prior incarnations one was governor of Massachusetts, and the other was a senator from Illinois -- both antigun states. Politicians go with the flow in their constituencies. On the national stage, the calculus on gun rights is very different from what it is in those particular states. Romney might be marginally better because he would be more open to hearing from pro-gun organizations such as the NRA, etc. The next Supreme Court appointment(s) might be a factor in choosing the next president, but even that factor is overstated, since the next retirement is likely to be from the liberal side and thus with an Obama presidency the overall makeup of the Court wouldn't change.

Does anyone know the laws concerning spears and machetes? Since spears are usually rather long and hard to conceal would a permit be required to carry a spear in public? Would alatls be made illegal as spear launchers? Is there a maximum length for machetes carried in public? Lots of new things to consider. And you thought that guns got a bad rap, just wait. A sharp machete and a strong arm are a formidable combination and have been for centurys. Next thing is curare legal for topical application to any or all of the above? Why not start a backrfire? No defense is nearly as good as an organized attack.

''oh, Obama didn't do anything his first term, so we're safe...''

We're boned. I can't believe otherwise intelligent people can be so naive.

The whole idea that Obama will be free to do as he wishes in his second term is crazy. The political reality is that he is head of the Democratic Party and has a vested interest in seeing a Dem follow him into the Oval Office... That won't happen if he goes "rogue."
