Will Obama reinstate the AWB if reelected?

Yes, I think he will. He hasn't yet because he isn't a lame duck yet. He knows better than to do anything before his reelection. After that, look out! He has no respect for Congress and will simply issue an executive order. He and Hillary are licking their chops over the prospects of enforcing the UN small arms treaty. I would put NOTHING past Obama. I'm not nuts about Romney because I know his past, but I'll vote for him in a heartbeat. What choice do we have?

Note to self: Stay away from political threads on gun forums... it's like a trainwreck that you can't help but gawk at... This isn't a 2A thread, this is a thread being used as an excuse to bash the left.

Jimmy, that line from post 51 was the one that set me off..

I could go into a very long an boring explanation of why (but I'll spare it for now) but this is simply ignorant as can be be. It shows a serious lack of understanding of both basic American government and international law and treaties. I studied American govt, studied international law, have a J.D. and I can tell you that your concerns on this front are wildly misplaced.

I will say now what I said in '08 Obama would LOVE to implement any and all gun control he could. However, there is no political will for that in congress. An AWB will not be passed through congress unless there is a dramatic change in its make up. Obama may not have to worry about re-election but many of the members of congress do.

I want to thank the mods for not locking this yet. It has been worth a good laugh.

It does scare me how many people get their information from spam emails.

I hope someone reposts this in two years...it'll be funny then. Of course, without our guns, we'll need something to cheer us up.

I so agree but on an utterly sarcastic level. You guys grossly overestimate Obama's ability to actually accomplish ANYTHING. If we can't get a federal budget passed in almost three years (something Congress is legally bound to do annually) how can you intellectually expect a third rail political kiss of death to pass?

IMO anyone who's willing to pull the lever for Romney knowing his record on the issue forever forfeits any credibility to speak of being concerned for PRO 2A issues.

Reading these fearful responses almost have me reconsidering my write in vote. I may do the unthinkable and pull the lever for O just to help make certain we DON'T end up with the dangerous combination of a sympathetic Congress and a gun banning liberal president most of you guys are so eager to create.

told twice that the EPA has no authority over lead ammunition.
An executive order from Obama(however unlikely) doesn't change the fact that the EPA has no authority to do so. If they have the authority to do so, then they shouldn't have denied that previous request on those grounds.

But it's so fascinating! You can play spot the Poe's Law!

How a bill becomes law...

I thought we all learned this in middle school.

There is nothing to "reinstate' - the AWB expired.

Why bash the "left" so much? They promote lots of great freedoms the right does not and vice versa.

Some people here could benefit from a healthy dose of political realism.

Yes.Mr. Obama is part of the Chicago MACHINE.A second term means he will be a lame duck President and doesnt have to worry about re-election.

Im more worried about him winning a second term and appointing Supreme Court Justices, thereby scewing the court for decades on 2nd Amendment issues.I feel this is the real long term threat of a 2nd term.

^ That is a very valid concern. Even with the recent pro-2A court decisions, the future may be bleak with more Obama appointed justices.

I suppose it would have been better to title the thread "Will Obama attempt to reinstate the AWB if reelected". I wasn't asking necessarily out of fear as much as I was asking out of curiosity of Obama's intentions.

The next three justices likely to retire all were in the dissent on Heller.

You base this assumption that Romney SCOTUS appointments would be more 2a friendly based on previous actions or just the fact that he has an "R" next to his name?

I would assume Romney appointments to be generally more conservative than Obama appointments. Neither Romney or Obama is 2A friendly, but of the two, Romney's SC picks, in my opinion, would be more friendly.

I am voting for Obama. Mitt looks like a crook.
Michele Bachman needs to go regardless of who replaces her.

I have enough guns, and primers to last two lifetimes.

If the NRA don't remove Ted Nugent as a director, I am canceling my membership.
